I have heard you should have your film hand-checked, but I was wondering about the tapes we use in our camcorder. (We have a mini-DV camcorder)

It was no problem for us on our last trip. They went through the scanners and my video clips remained intact. They should be fine!

In December I had recorded about 3 tapes with my camcorder and when I returned home one of the 3 tapes wouldn't work. The only thing I figure was that running it through the scanners at the airport did something to it.

Can't say for sure, but I no longer let then go through the scanners.

I've run my tapes through the scanners several times and haven't had any problems. You Should be OK

1) The scanners are not supposed to harm video tape.
2) The scanners are not supposed to harm film below 1000 speed.
3) The scanners are not supposed to harm pictures on chips.

4) With this said, I won;t chance losing vacation memories.
5) I always ask for hand scanning of tape-film-memorychips.

I have the same type of camara and went through no problem but your film or a picture camara will get erased.
