At what point did you say "I'm done"?

I feel like I am good at the moment. I can do both of my WDW trips each year plus a couple staycations at DL. I sometimes think 50 more would make it about perfect and then remind myself that just means more dues, and talk myself down. I think the only way I buy more is if there is DVC added at Yacht Club or that area. And then I would just be selling off some of what I already have to purchase it.

I think I’m done… but I’ve yet to stay at all of the resorts I want to. Still to try out RIV (have my first studio stay booked in 54 days), and a few others (AUL and VGC this summer). Once I truly decide on my favourites I will probably do a little bit of shuffling and maybe reduce my points down a little bit. I kind of went in with the attitude that rather than rent I’d just buy a contract and sell if it doesn’t work for me, so I expect to reduce a little bit once I’ve finally done them all. But yeh, pretty sure I’m done buying.

I think we're probably done for a while.

We have 200 at BRV (purchased in 2024), 160 at VGC (purchased in 2023), and 160 at VDH (purchased this past week.)

Right now, the plan is 7 nights in a 1-bedroom at WDW every winter (January or February.) But we'll probably skip a year here or there.

And 6-7 nights at Disneyland every year(ish) in a 1-bedroom. Alternating between the two resorts.

When our BRV expires in 2042, we'll have to decide what our travel plans may look like going forward (we'll be in our 60s.) We could purchase more DVC somewhere in WDW. Or if we find we want to go to Disneyland less often, we could use VDH/VGC points for WDW trips. Well, most likely the VDH points since they are direct.

But I think we should currently have enough for what we want for quite a while, at least.

Never say never though. 🤣

How much did you end up with in total?
1927

VGF- 175
BWV- 230
VGC- 422
VDH- 150
AUL- 950

At least 350 of those Aulani are subsidized and were purchased under the condition of selling 400 unsubsidized.

The problem is I look at the value after commissions and fees compared to renting them and just can’t bring myself to do it.

Yeah that's why I haven't parted with my AKV even though BLT is economically smarter, after fees and commission idk if it is? It probably is but it makes the math closer

I think we are done, until we get closer to retirement. We bought 100 CCV (our fav resort) resale to dip our toes in the water. We added 150 direct to get Blue Card Benefits and we also really like the Poly. I just added 150 direct at CCV to try and future proof us a bit for new resorts and restrictions and to give us more options at our favorite resort. I also had an irrational fear they would make changes to direct benefits and not grandfather folks in, so I grabbed a good deal on the direct points at CCV to hedge my bets there as well. In doing math in another thread I posted I think 800 total points is where I want to be eventually, with 300 direct. Im now halfway there and have hit my direct goal. So until we get closer to retirement I think I am happy with our mix now. But give it a few years to set in, we just became members 2ish years ago and look where im at now :)

You need to buy 28 more points! Then you can have ✨1955 ✨

Thought I was done. We were doing around 2 trips a year, mostly 5 or 6 nights per stay. It’s easy enough to cover that between 50pts BWV and 150pts VGF - plenty of combinations to use our 200pts for 10-12 nts/yr.

DVC is like a Jedi mind trick though. You can try something different and better without really changing your cost. We pay the same for 2 years of points whether we spread them across 3 trips or burn through them on 1 ‘special’ trip. Once you can try something, it recalibrates the new norm. So now we’re into 1BRs and 200pts no longer cut it.

I am to the point where I have enough points unless we start needing 2 bedroom villas for every trip, which likely won't happen, so we have no plans to add on any more. If a new resort comes online that we love and want to own at, we'd probably have to sell some points to buy in because we are pretty much to the limit of how many points we can use without burning them foolishly.

When we started we just wanted enough for a studio at VGF for F&WF for 5 nights. Since then we have added on enough for 10 nights in the summer at VGF in a 1 bdrm and also 5 nights in a 1-2bdrm at Thanksgiving. I would add on more so that we could do CCV in a 2bdrm every Thanksgiving and our PVB points for our DD and I to use for random Festival trips each year. We will see if that happens. Also we always love bigger rooms so adding points to move to a 2bdrm in the summer.

I feel like I started with studios in mind only and that quickly changed to 1BRs as well.. if I could go back in time I probably would've bought 300 at RIV straight up to start, I think my amount at Aulani is good enough and then waiting for Poly direct 300

I wanted one trip a year. I have enough for one trip a year. That's fine. There are lots of other things to do in the world, and DVC points are generally bad for anything that is not DVC lodging.
Close.....I needed two trips.....one with just the wife and one with the grandkids....

I feel like I walked right into it 😂 and DVC/Disney can predict my family’s behavior better than we know ourselves.
