Airplane Question for the Travel Gurus

I am looking at my flights online for about 325 days out, so all the seats should be available right? Nope! On the outgoing flight, only 11 seats are showing as being available! I know some are blocked off for frequent flyers, but not too many. Here are my questions:

Is there anyway to get some of the blocked off FF seats, (even if you pay for the ticket) by using some FF miles? This way we could sit somewhat together. (4 of us, only 1 under 16).

If the seats were booked by a tour group or travel company, how long can they hold them?
In other words, if the seats don't sell, and are released, I could always move my seats, but how likely is this, and how long before the scheduled date to fly?

I just can't believe this far out the seats are booked, and I am freaking!!! The fare is a great price, and I would book it, except that the seats left are all over the plane. Help!!!

its irregardless of what seats you book now because between the time you buy it and the time you fly it will have gone thru 4 major schedule changes. and the setas as well as the flights itself will be affected. the numbers could change, the aircraft and the times. so book whatever seats you can for now. the FTP seats that are blocked arent' for the average joe ftp member they are blocked for the FTP member that flies all the time. they have "preferred seating". the only other option I can tell you is to make the ressie and calol and speak to a supervisor and explain what it is to thema nd they can probaly get you the seat but it will change and they will explaint his to you as well. you can have them make an OSI message in the computer to the people working the schedule change that when they get to your PNR to make sure you have these certain seats or would want to sit in these rows if at all possible.

Thanks for the tips! You are right, the equipment can change, it did on us last year.
If we wind up booking it, I will call and see what can be done about putting us together, and will mention what you said.

I just can't imagine how the plane is so booked already though!
