Airmiles Armchair Chatter

So I'm done the 300 airmiles offers. I'm off to Disneyland Paris Tuesday morning so needed to get it done by today.

4 airmiles cards.

Shop 1 - Metro
Card 1 +81 airmiles
Card 2 +52 airmiles
Card 3 +4 airmiles
Card 4 + 8 airmiles

Shop 2 - Airmileslinks - Dollarama
Card 1 +10 airmiles
Card 2 +10 airmiles
Card 3 +10 airmiles
Card 4 + 10 airmiles

Shop 3 -
Card 1 Airmilesshops - Staples - picked up (fingers crossed) +1 airmile
Card 2 BMO (used for Metro purchases)
Card 3 Airmilesshops - Old Navy +7 airmiles (7x AMS offer)
Card 4 Airmilesshops - Michaels - picked up (same plaza as Staples) +1 airmile

I don't think we have room for 20l of gas on Monday but if I have time I'll try on husband's card since he has the Staples order on his.

Change of topic for a minute.
Just back from vacation and I think I mentioned, just before leaving, that I was concerned I might have purchased to much in Disney GCs. I bought a lot of items for the family Christmas boxes (I do a shoe box size for each with little items in it and then add cash to complete). We ate at several great spots and enjoyed lots of little treats like frozen lemonade (YUM) and Mickey bars. Those add up quickly. I did manage to spend it all and actually ended up with a final bill of $56. Worked out good.
While on our DCL cruise there was an issue with the engines so we could not stop at Castaway Cay, our last stop on our last day. The captain said he was needing the time to get back to port on time due to the engines not working at full capacity. For this inconvenience he gave each cabin a $250 onboard non refundable onboard credit as well as a 25% discount on our next cruise. Here I was concerned about how I was going to spend my Disney GCs as it was and now I need to spend another $250 in one day. Great problem to have right?? We looked and looked and looked. Nothing we really wanted. DH bought a new shirt and I bought a Pirates of the Caribbean Battleship game for our GS for Christmas. Both items came to around $100. Still had $150 to spend and not a thing that we wanted. So, $150 worth of packaged candy came home with us. It was a use it or lose it situation so why not.
Later that night I was messaging my d-I-L and she said 'why didn't you get a massage'. How could I not have thought about that?? We even had 20% discount coupons sent to us on our first day from the spa because it was our birthdays! That would have been the ideal way to spend free money. Oh well, at least I can eat candy for a month or two.
The Fantasy has had engine issues for many years, I don't know why they just don't do an actual fix during a dry dock.
Welcome Home!
Hugs Mel

My Shell is at it's absolute worst condition I've ever seen.
New management and they just haven't got it together yet.
Super low stock on everything ,,,for months ,,, poor customer interaction,,,
Their Systems are down quite often. Coolers are half empty.
I might try going for a drive on Monday to see if I can find a better Shell.
Dundas and Trafalgar is good. Skip the one on corner of Dundas and Ridgeway…..store is VERY tiny.

Heading out to pick up a frozen dinner for hubby from Shell to finish the 3 offers on both cards
Primary card:

  1. Dollarama for Disney Gift Card using the BMO Mastercard (get the linked offer as well as 5 miles/$25)
  2. Metro weekly shopping trip
  3. Paid for #2 with the BMO Mastercard

Secondary card
  1. Online order from Well .ca
  2. Metro $20 transaction
  3. Shell for M & M frozen dinner
I wish all of the offers were this easy! Did people in other areas of the country get a similar one??

WestJet Mastercard just arrived, time to break out the spreadsheet to keep track of which card to use to maximize my rewards!

Out west we have earn 1 AM at 2 sponsors. We don’t have Metro so I guess they made it easier for us.

We find our Westjet card has worked better for us. - for the traveling that we like to do. We put anything and everything on it - pay it off each month when paying bills. We just moved up a tier due to how much we spend on it - and have used for booking our travel as well. It also doesn't charge us a foreign exchange fee. We found that out on our last trip to Vegas in March. I believe we have the higher level one. So that's a win in our books.

We still use our BMO cc for purchases where we get AM - but ultimately the WJ has worked far better for us.

I hope you find it works for you as well. The companion fare is definitely worth it.

Ok so here's my hypothetical question. I live in Ontario and have done the 1AM at 3 partners offer here. If I were say travelling to Manitoba for a couple of days could I do the Manitoba offer 1AM at 2 partners and get another 300AM. It is a separate offer.

I'm not planning on this (at this moment) but the opportunity could present itself in the future.

I should know better but I just got a CAA membership and wanted to save 3 cents a liter so instead of paying at the pump I used the Shell app and my AM haven't posted yet and now I am spiraling that they won't and it will mess up the 1 per litre and the 3 for 300. All to save about $1. Ugh. I guess I will be going to Dollarama later this week to try and earn some AM there as backup if shell doesn't post soon. Plus it was 1 time, 30 L earn 25. And the app would let me use my cash miles! Hate the app. Boo!!

I used the app this afternoon. My points (including the extra 22 for 22L bought) are on my account. I think one time I used my cash miles and for some reason the earned AM did not post, but that was some time ago.

We are both more excited about this credit card than 2 adults should be - I mean, seriously?!? We had a targeted offer that gave us no annual fee for the first year, our first companion fare is FREE!!, first transaction gives us $250 WJ $ and if we spend $5,000 within the first 3 months we'll get another $200 WJ $ The plan at the moment is to use it almost exclusively to reach the maximum return. Been holding off on dropping our passport renewals off at the local Service Canada office (they all take simple renewal forms apparently!),booking the transportation to Pearson for our birthday trip and getting trip insurance until the card arrived. Might end up being an expensive choice of credit card - I'm in the middle of actively planning not 1, not 2 but THREE trips over the next year :O

Question - will we get the free baggage on our flights that we bought before we opened the account or does that only apply to flights moving forward?

Not WJ but Air Canada the free baggage is anytime after you link your credit card with the Aeroplan number.

I earned 35 air miles today on bonus day at Shell so 1 partner down. I know I could have earned more bonus miles if I had shopped in the store but my brother got the gas when he was picking up dinner so I didn't go with him. I even earned extra bonus miles today because my nephews new Jeep says it has to use premium gas (v power) so I got 2x miles for a total of 6 miles for our 35 l fillup. Let me tell you that we won't be putting the gas in his car like we did before if it has to use premium gas. I can't afford it. My brother is going to check exactly what type of gas is required but for now we will use the premium gas. Good thing my nephew is off work for the next 2 months due to his car accident - he won't need gas too often but it will make it harder to get 4 fillups done on 2 cards each month.
So 2 more partners to go on my card. I will be shopping at Metro and Dollarama and make my sister do her own Metro, Shell and Dollarama shops since she has linked her Mastercard to her AirMiles account now.

Well my Shell miles posted! Phew. But I am still a little annoyed I couldn't use the cash miles in the app so I won't be using that again. Hopefully the CAA card comes in the mail before I have to fill up again. I don't think I'll be getting 2 fill ups in September, this was my first one. I just don't drive much any more, even with back to school happening and kiddo actually going. So I should be good, Shell, Metro, BMO. I may still go to Dollarama as a back up but we'll see. I don't really need more chocolate bars. Kiddo does say he needs gum though.

I miss read the instructions on he pump and didn't realize I had to insert my CAA card first so I didn't get the
gas discount but maybe I got more airmiles?
Hate paying at the pump ,,,, It takes days for the charge to fall off my Mastercard.
With semi retirement and just doing supply work I am down to one fill a month now.

You can add your CAA card to the Shell app so you get both the discount and the AM without having to worry about missing a step.

The thing I find weird about the Shell app is I haven’t found where it confirms which station you’re at before you click to pay at the pump. Seeing that number on the pump drop by $0.03/L is my visual confirmation that I didn’t just activate a pump at the last Shell I was at instead of the one I’m currently at 😅. The location services seem to work well and have not given me reason for concern, I’m just somewhat surprised it doesn’t have a confirmation step.

Did Metro on Saturday, Shell yesterday (got my third visit 25AM bonus too!), and put in an Amazon order, so hopefully I ticked the boxes right. Had the “earn 1 AM at Metro and at Shell” offer for the 8-10 weekend too though and my Metro visit from the 8th still hasn’t posted!? I definitely earned base miles that day.
