My MIL is going to transfer 90 of her airmiles to us for the park tickets. I was just curious if anyone has had experience with it. I am interested in knowing if it's immediate or not. By that I mean when she calls ,verifies her number, gives them mine, will it show up immediately or not?

I can't say for certain in your scenario but I have transfered from my HBC to AM and it was in my account within a few days. I have also purchased extra miles which was immediate.....I transfered and redeemed in one transaction.

In general, AM is pretty fast with things. There are a few exceptions to that though...like promo miles being posted.

Curious how many air miles points you need for an adult pass? I use Aeroplan and the points were crazy for a 3 or 4 day pass. It was much more than the cash the points were worth.

Adult 3 day MYW base ticket : 2175 airmiles
Adult 5 day MYW base ticket : 2225 airmiles

Yes the aeroplan was something like 20K pts :scared1:

I really wouldn't want to calculate the amount of money spent to accumulate enough points for WDW tix. Last March I redeemed for 2 adult, 7 day premium passes and 2 US tix. It was around 10,000 AM. I get points for things I need to buy anyway...gass, groceries etc....so it is a perk.

Well we have had my sons 5 day ticket for 3 years. The FD deals kept showing up so we never used it. Decided to use it this year as well as the FD by only buying 2day tix in the package and we're staying for 7 days. You're right about calculating the dollar value but we look at it the same way you do. Our gas - Shell, groceries - Metro, phone/internet - Primus. Just day to day things. I don't buy something just cause it has airmiles. I actually need it then they are just a perk like you said

Just FYI,

My MIL did the transfer last night and it showed up right away on my airmiles card.

Is it possible for my wife to transfer her 2,000 AM to my account and if so, does it cost any money

yes it is possible. it costs 15 cents per airmile to transfer so you'd be looking at $300.00 + HST:scared1: Another thing to try is to call them and tell them you're married and ask to have the two accounts linked together under 1 number. then they could send you a second card with the account you want to use then you're pooling your reward miles into one account everytime you shop.

They wont do it (at least last I heard which was Sept) unless you pay. They will certainly suggest that you start collecting off of one account but they wont transfer over your existing amrm for free.

Not worth the money to transfer in my opinion.

Lets say you're trying to get a $20 certificate for 175 AMRM (Like the Shell ones they used to have), and you have 100 AMRM and your spouse has the other 75.... at .15 per amrm + tax you're paying $12.71 for a $20 certificate. The money you save isn't worth the bother at that point and it's pretty much the same for anything Air Miles has. Still better than nothing I suppose but you're better off being patient and just letting them accumulate until you have enough.

I'm not sure it's worth it for the large number of miles, unless you're transferring just enough to put you over the top...like for the disney tix.

With 2000 AM, wouldn't it be better to redeem them for gift cards or something and transfer them that way?

Its best that I keep my wife on a separate card because all the miles that she has got have been through double dipping. What I mean by that is when TIM BR MART has a special coupon where you spend $200, you get 150 bonus miles. I use my card and then my wife uses hers. You have to break up the bill into two separate transactions. Between the house and the cottage, there is never a problem spending 1,000.00/year on supplies. So say if we spend $500 twice a year, that works out to 300 bonus airmiles each because they usually have that deal twice a year. We both got Shell coupons last week where we buy $30 of gas four times, we get 100 airmiles....so it is in my best interests to have my wife keep her own card as they are ALL bonus airmiles. There are lots of bonus deals like this
