Airline vouchers

I had never heard of receiving airline vouchers until I read about them on this board awhile back. I bought United tickets from DC to Orlando for $160. I have been checking the price periodically and they have not gone down for that particular flight. Now they have actually changed our flight from leaving at 7:30 am to 9:30am. I do see other flights that are cheaper but my question is, are the airline vouchers only for the EXACT flight that you have or any other flight with the same airline on the same days as traveled? How does that work?

The general rule is that is has to be for the EXACT flights as originally booked.

It stinks, I know. I have five seats on a Delta flight in November, which is now completly booked. They have added more flights for a lesser price. Doesn't seem right, that people who book early can't get a better deal later.
