We're going to WDW Feb. 18 (I know, President's Week, yikes!!!). There are 5 adults and we're flying out of either JFK or LaGuardia in NY. Problem is, there aren't ANY cheap flights as of today!!! I've tried Jetblue, NorthWest, Airtran, Continental, Delta, I'm running out of options!!! Do I have a chance at all of getting a reasonable fare?? Or should I just expect to pay $400 round trip for airline tickets. Any help GREATLY appreciated.

Check out the free flights with wendys promotion at air tran. If you are willing to drink alot of soda between now and charistmas you can fly free.

LOL, I did see that. That's an awful lot of soda!!! Guess I'll be hitting Wendy's at lunch EVERY DAY from now til then. :earseek:

What is the Wendy's promotion? Is it a contest? Just wondering :confused3

maybve you could try spiritair... i read a post tonight about how cheap the fares were.... :flower:

Unfortunately, flying from the frozen North to the sunshine of Florida is going to come with a hefty pricetag on a holiday weekend in February. However, if you just switch the departure day to the Thursday prior to the weekend and use LGA instead, you will find that fares drop dramatically. I know that this isn't always a possibility, but right now (using SideStep.com) I'm seeing $247 RT 2/16-2/23/06 from LGA to MCO via American Airlines. Departing from JFK, pricing starts at $267 (also via AA). They aren't the greatest fares that I've seen from NYC to MCO but they may be the best that you'll see for President's Weekend. Good luck.

Fares to ANY FL city anytime in Feb. is tough, but Prez's Day is the worst time to travel if you want good fares. Space dries up real fast and the airlines have no reason to offer sale fares, since most people are willing to pay more.

If you see a fare for a price you can live with, jump on it. If you wait for a sale, you'll wind up spending the holiday weekend at home!

Try Southwest out of Macarthur airport (out on Long Island), they have parking for a reasonable price per day also. :)

Not tickets to Orlando but I've had a hard time finding a ticket for my daughter to fly from Portland Or to Chicago at a reasonable rate. The prices are double what they were last year at this time.

I ended up paying $412 for non-stop United, and that was the cheapest ticket I could find. I know I could have tried Priceline but some of the flights were 13 hrs long with 2 stops and I wasnt' willing to put her through that.

We've flown several times from Seattle to MCO around Presidents week. I almost always get the cheapest fare through Delta (although I'm not thrilled with their customer service) and I have always found that booking in Jan is cheaper. I haven't found that fares dramatically rise as do hotels for holidays such as Presidents week (unlike Christmas or Thanksgiving where they do climb). The few times I've booked far in advance a lower fare has always come out closer to my date.

We are going in March and I won't begin looking until mid-Jan. Right now fares are probably high because we are nearing Thanksgiving.

I search on Travelocity and / or Cheaptickets and then I book directly through the airlines website. Always cheaper and no service fee.

Hope this helps
Jenn

I second the Southwest out of ISP (Islip) idea. It is a SUPER easy airport (very small and wonderful). If you book that flight now you can always get money back if you get dinged or a cheaper flight becomes available.

Check Southwest out of Philly.

We're flying out of NY because at that point everyone will be living in NY. Thanks though. :-)

LOL, it's a small world after all! I haven't found anything cheaper yet, but I REFUSE to give up hope!!! If I see anything, I'll be sure to let you know.

If you're committed to Sat to Sat travel, I wouldn't wait too long. We're flying BDL-MCO for Pres week. SWA opened their schedule last Thursday, and as of today 4 out of 6 of the available flights down are sold out - no availability. Of course, if you can adjust your schedule a bit to go Tues to Tues, you can probably get a much better rate.

Good Luck!

Last year we went to WDW during Prez week, and because of Southeast Air going out of business (a whole other story) found ourselves without tickets in late December.

I actually did better price-wise booking then, and found tickets were much less expensive than what I had looked at in September. As someone else on this thread said, maybe the trend at that time of year is that cheaper tickets come out in late December/early January.

I'm not sure I could have waited until then though (I thought I was covered!).

good luck!

Looking at the same time too. The fares actually dropped quite a bit (on Delta) when the SW schedule opened up but only briefly and only if I wanted to fly in on Sunday and leave on Friday (which is actually the perfect days for DVC) but I decided to wait a few days for the dates I really wanted.

Well, I'm kicking myself now because the prices shot back up. Even Easter break is cheaper (TPA and the rest of FL) than President Week. We want to go Pres Week because Easter is too crowded. We have APs burning a hole in our pockets that need to be used before the end of April.

But if the airfare stays so high, we will skip Pres Week because for the extra $$ per ticket I could let our APs expire and buy new ones next trip and still come out ahead!

So, I'm waiting patiently, too... In my gut, I think the fares will drop so I'm not willing to spend over $250/pp. And if my gut is wrong, I would be willing to cancel. It's just so hard to wait to find out though!

I'm with you, SleepyatDVC. I'm still hoping they're gonng drop. I've been checking every few days - there just HAS to be a cheaper way! I refuse to pay $400 or more pp as there are 5 adults going on this trip. Heck, three of us are licensed to drive, so we just might wind up driving down to Disney from NY and bang it out in a day and a half. It'll still be cheaper than flying, I'm sure (factoring in the 5 tickets). But, the thought of spending endless hours in a Toyota Highlander makes my back ache! LOL.

I was checking various sites earlier this evening - cheaptickets, delta, etc. and some of them had the CHEAPEST fares at over $1,000 pp. I don't think I ever laughed so hysterically in all my life!! :rotfl: :rotfl2:

HI there! I read this thread yesterday, and I just got an email from travelocity saying there are flights from NY to Orlando from $123 RT. I don't know if it's for the dates you need, but thought I would tell you! Good luck! :sunny:
