Airline lost our luggage and stroller, where can we quickly buy new staff?

We just arrived to Pop Century. Airline lost 2 of our luggage, stroller and car seat. Third luggage came to Orlando (contains our toddler's clothes and Christmas presents). Me and my husband have only those clothes that we were wearing during the flight (we came from Scandinavia so winter clothing).. Of course we had all travel documents, medication etc in our hand luggage but not much more.

If the bags won't arrive tomorrow, we need to go and buy some clothes, swimsuits, diapers, toiletries/makeup etc. The Pop Century resort shop doesn't have many of those (and of course everything is expensive, like 12 diapers for 12 $). So, is there one place close by that would have everything we need? We don't want to waste any more time than necessary for this mess. Is Downtown Disney an option? I am thinking maybe not? And by the way, we don't have a car.

Our biggest problem is losing the stroller. We have planned going to the parks for the whole days (we have 8-day tickets), and our 2-year old takes her nap in the stroller. She is used to her own stroller which reclines fully, has a good hood and good sleeping position, and us parents like the large storage space. Of course we could rent strollers at the parks, but what are they like? No good reclining position for sleeping child? And quite high prices?

We could use some help - what to do now? This was a lousy start for the holiday :(.

Did you talk to the front desk? They should know of a close-by Walmart or Target so you can buy what you need. You will have to take a taxi since you don't have a car. Both sell strollers if the airline can't get your's to you. DTD does not carry the things you need.

I would try Magic Strollers, Kingdom Strollers or Apple Strollers and rent one. They usually rent the City Mini jogging strollers which recline and have good storage. Less than $100 for a week hopefully. Call and explain your situation and see if they can deliver ASAP.
Sorry this happened to you:-(

When does the next flight come in from your airport? That's a lot for an airline to lose for one party. It's possible it all just didn't make it onto the correct plane, and that it will all arrive today.

It's very likely your luggage will appear within 24 hours.

I agree your best bet would be a taxi to a local store. Keep receipts; the airline will reimburse you for basic necessities. If you have travel insurance, check your policy; you may also get some expenses covered if you bought your tickets using certain credit cards.

This is a real inconvenience; it has happened to me and other family members several times.

Thank you all for your comments. There is no sign of the luggage yet (we can keep track of the search process via the airline's web page), it has been about 24 hours now. We were thinking about renting a stroller either from Disney or from one of the other stroller rental companies bbak3030 recommended. But the airline doesn't compensate rental fees - however they most likely can compensate buying a cheap stroller. Why is it like that, I have no idea, but we then decided to buy.

We took a taxi to the nearest Walmart and bought the cheapest stroller we found there (50 $), then bought some underwear, socks, flipflops, diapers, a skirt for me, swimsuit for my husband, one t-shirt for me and my husband each. The upper limit that the airline is willing to compensate is 250 $ and even though we didn't buy anything expensive, we spent the whole amount (and they won't pay for the taxi we had to take). Still I don't have swimsuit, sunglasses, any hat, my makeup etc. And the stroller is very lousy compared to our own :sad2:

Well, we are hoping the luggage would appear quickly. We cannot let this ruin our trip. And at least we got the one piece of luggage that had all our daughter's clothes and princess dresses princess:

What's the airline? I'll be happy to research their lost (not just misdirected) luggage policy so you don't need to disturb your vacation further.

If there's any souvenir clothing that you wanted, now is the time to buy it. This happened to DH and I in Hawaii. Luckily, I was able to buy a swimsuit and a Hawaiian print dress from the hotel gift shops. The swimsuit was expensive, but I wore the heck out of it later on. One of the best looking swimsuits I have ever bought. I also still wear the Hawaiian print dress, especially going out to eat on vacations or for dinner on cruises. Luggage showed up later. It's very weird and uncomfortable to be without your stuff. Good luck, and just keep looking for the silver lining.

Flying as far as you did, was there trip insurance? It could still be found. Did you have a cell phone number and pop tags on the baggage?
I wonder if it was not even on the plane out by mistake, or put on another plane?

So sorry this happend, hope it's resolved soon..
Ps. Did it go through customs?

Sorry to hear about this airline debacle OP. I hope that ur luggage and items found their way to you. I'd just try to push forward with your holiday and Not let this ruin it. Get what you need for your family and handle the reimbursement later on. And personally I'd POST the airlines name and you should document everything. Best of luck and sending PIXIE DUST your way!

I hope they found everything. I would also post the name of the airline. For the amount of things you lost, it did not seem like a decent reimbursement. Especially considering a stroller was involved.

It was American Airlines.
We do have travel insurance and I hope they will compensate also something (their policy says that 55 eur per person per day for missing luggage but I am not sure for how many days we can claim it). And yes, we had name tags (and cell phone numbers) in the luggage.

My husband called again today to AA and they told him that 2 pieces of our luggage have been located (couldn't tell which ones) but those still haven't shown up here. Let's hope they will come tomorrow. And at the moment I am really hoping that those two would be the luggage and NOT the stroller and the car seat. We can at the moment manage without the stroller (because we already bought the cheap stroller) and car seat but the luggage would be very nice to get :thumbsup2

We have had to buy some (expensive!) clothes from the park stores because we simply didn't have any shorts and t-shirts. In the Pop Century shop there was one model of men's shorts so my hysband had to buy those :)

Thank you all for your kind words! We will try to continue our holiday like this problem never happened. Lucliky our little one is only seeing all positive and fun and enjoying everything at the parks :lovestruc

OP did AA tell you they would deliver them to you or where they are at ? Hate to think they are sitting at AA's baggage office at MCO waiting for you to get them.

I can't speak for AA but in my experience of delayed luggage at least 5x, USAirways & SWA both delivered the bags.

It's an awful feeling. One of those times ds's car seat (checked with a large protective canvas/zippered bag) was delayed on our way home. Might have been one of those high-back booster seats. Anyway, we had to drive home from PHL on I-95 & 295 to get home. It was all ok in the end but I was very upset to have to do that to a 4 yr old.

I really feel for you OP. I hope you can still have fun on your trip and not have too much time spent doing laundry.

This was my experience with Delta as well... Luggage was delivered to the resort. OP I hope your luggage arrives soon,

AA will deliver the luggage to our hotel. We have waived they can leave them at the front desk because we will leave now to the parks. 2 of the luggage will be arriving today so we'll see in the evening which ones.

This evening when we returned from the parks, 2 pieces of our luggage had been delivered to our room. We were really optimistic those would be our luggage, but no! It was the stroller and car seat. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

My husbad called AA for the third time and asked about the missing luggage. The person on the phone told him that the other one COULD be now in Miami. I don't know how the process works but couldn't someone just check the tags and see if it is ours or not.

The airline will now compensate some more because it has been already more than 3 days. But that still leaves us with the same problem: either we have to buy our stuff at the Disney park shops (and you just cannot get all items we need from those) or you will have to take a taxi to the shopping mall and use your precious park time going shopping. For tomorrow I had booked dining and Fastpasses so I would have to cancel those. Poor options :sad1:

If there's any space in your day, I would take a taxi over to Target. (others would recommend Walmart as it's even cheaper and probably bigger but I don't shop there)

Target has basics at decent prices. And it's all in one building, instead of having to search different stores for things.

Might just be easier than the mall.

Plus, the Targets I've been in in Orlando have HUGE cheaper-than-Disney souvenir sections. :)

Oh no! I really feel for you.

My son and his wife went to France the Christmas before last to visit his wife's relatives. His bag with his winter clothes and Christmas gifts was lost the whole month of the trip (we had warned him not to check his bag!). He got the run around from his airline the whole time as to the bag's location, but didn't see it again until he'd been home for a week and it was delivered to his apt in NYC.

My husband had his bag lost when he went on a work trip from the U.S. to Brussels; it went missing for over 6 weeks!

Both my husband and son had to buy new clothes, a new suitcase, etc. Both kept all receipts and were completely reimbursed by the airlines (son, Aer Lingus, husband, BA).

So, buy what you need and keep all receipts. Try not to let this ruin your vacation!
