Airline ID for kids?

What has been your experiences in flying with your minor children regarding ID?What did you use? Did the airlines ask for anything. This is for a domestic flight with the kids traveling with both parents. TIA Grammy

DS is 10, and has been flying since he was 5. We've never been asked for any kind of ID for him. That being said, I usually have a copy of his Birth Certificate with me, and the TSA screeners at the first part of the security checkpoint, may ask the children directly, what their name is.

He does bring his school ID with him now, and likes to show the skycaps when we check our bags

Minors don't require ID. Not by TSA, and not by your airline.

If your child is under 2 and will be a "lap baby," the airline will probably require proof of age so they know you're telling the truth.

Also, if my child was a mature-looking teen, I'd have some sort of ID handy so TSA doesn't think the child is 18 or over and thus in-need of ID.

A photocopy of a birth certificate should suffice (because remember, we're not talking actual legal ID), and so should an immunization record.

If your kid isn't flying as a lap baby and doesn't possibly look 18, then you'll have no need for ID, no need whatsoever.

Every time we fly somewhere; they ask my now 6 year daughter her name, age and ask for nothing more.

We flew at the begining of the month my son was to turn 18. I brought his birth certificate just in case. I offered it to tsa but they said no need. She also said it does have to be an original(which is what I had anyway), no photocopies. Hope this helps someone out. This was at MCO.
