Airline Fares (inspired by "Delta Change of Flights")

If airfares increased to a consistent $250-$300 r/t from the East Coast cities to WDW

  • I would visit WDW just as often or perhaps more often.

  • I would visit WDW a little less often.

  • I would visit WDW a lot less often or perhaps not at all.

  • I never fly to WDW now.

hmmm this poll is not turning out the way I thought - where are all the $39/59 flyers this week??

They're off on their DING trips... :rotfl:

lol :rotfl:

We'd fly just as much. Our every year FL flight is to Ft Myers from Boston during February School Vacation week. If I can get those flights for $300 I am estatic.

I've had some smokin' deals flying BOS to MCO, and have paid upwards of $250. I'm certainly not searching out the expensive flights, but I won't look the other way on them either.

$300-$350 would still be fine for my family of three.

I think they're there. Almost two thirds of the folks responding to this poll would travel less, and almost one third would travel much less. The impact on WDW, alone, from so many people traveling less, would be devastating.

Also, there are some folks responding in a certain way due to how poorly I worded the question -- I didn't specifically mention that the r/t fare from Des Moines would be $450, or from Denver would be $580, or from Billings would be $640, so a lot of folks from the interior are looking at fares for the cities on the coasts, which are traditionally much lower than cities in the interior, and figuring those numbers look good. :)

The poll doesn't let me put in a complete enough question, so here's the full question:

If airfares increased to a consistent $250-$300 r/t (within continental US) how would that affect your vacation plans to Central Florida?

Why did it have to be WDW only? People do fly into MCO for other destinations. Also airfare from West coast would not be double that of east coast and have been traditionally similiar for twenty years sometimes being cheaper to fly from NYC to LAX than NYC to MCO.

Yeah, well I think the message gets lost in the numbers. The main point was for folks to consider what they would do if airfares substantially increased -- i.e., no cheap airfares anymore -- so airlines were all substantially profitable, and none of them were losing money anymore. The actually dollar amounts and even the relative aspects between East Coast, West Coast and WDW as the destination, weren't really important. :)

Of course, the prices have to increase a lot more than some folks think because each person who would fly less means less revenue, so the airfares for everyone else has to go up even more. It's a vicious circle.

Maybe time for a new poll? 'if airfares under $100 o/w were no longer available....' etc.

That would filter out those of us who already pay fares in the several hundreds and focus on the fares which seem to be unprofitable for most airlines but expected by many travellers.

I would cut out any weekend trips, but still plan weeklong ones as often. I actually did opt for paying the higher fare on Jetblue vs. the under $200 fares I've been getting on Delta. I just can't handle the constant changes with Delta anymore. They have lost our business once our Easter trip is over.
