Airline Carrier - Bad Vibes

I have a bad feeling about the carrier that we are using next month - US Airways. I knew that a while back they were in trouble but it looks like that they are going down the same road again with regards possible filing for bankruptcy etc.

I have never been in this position before - all the accomodation is booked and I *think* that they will still be going when I fly out but after the end of September it becomes very clouded as to what may or may not happen.

Am I just scaremongering or should I consider a contingency plan?

I would not unduly worry about it. Most of the big US carriers have filed for what they call "chapter 11" this means they can still carry on trading even though financially they are in dire straights. United and also Delta are in the same situation as well I think.

Seemingly this would be the 2nd time that they have filed for Chapter 11 and only one airline has got away with doing this before.....Continental. All the others have gone into liquidation :(

Now I'm starting to worry! :( We're flying to Las Vegas with US Airways on the 17th Dec. Hopefully everything will be ok.

Does anyone know what happens if you have tickets booked with an airline that goes into liquidation?

Catherine - needless to say I have done a bit of looking into this and the advice in general seems to be don't worry. All of the travel operators are insured against this kind of thing and you will not be stranded anywhere - seemingly you also pay an insurance when you book your tickets against this kind of thing happening.

I have heard nothing but good reports about US Airways but the kind of talk that has been going about some of the airline forums will undoubtedly signal an end to them if it impacts on ticket sales. They seem to be embroiled in union discussions and looking for concessions from their staff at the moment.

I have my fingers crossed that they will pull through :)

Thanks, for the info. freddy. I've decided that I'm not going to worry about this. After all, it's not like I can change anything by worrying. I'll just drive myself crazy!

I used to worry all the time and I got a stomach ulcer! It doesn't pay to worry :)
