I have airline tickets for Sat. (10/7) with USAir to MCO. I have never had to cancel a flight before and may need to cancel this trip.

I am wondering what happens when you cancel a flight reservation. TIA

Depends on the class of the ticket. why not call USAir and ask?

Probably what will happen is that you will have a year from the date you purchased to use the credit on the ticket. You are also normally charged a change fee of between $50 and $100 per ticket depending on the ticket price and/or airline.

I had to cancel a USAir flight earlier this year. There was a $100 change fee when I rebooked it. My new fare was about the same, so I didn't have to pay for additional fare.

Thanks Debbie and Carol.
Easier to ask you all then go through the call, press this and press that, hold please for the next available... :)

Be sure you call if you decide to cancel. On some airlines if you don't cancel PRIOR to the flight your ticket is considered void and you get no credit. (I can see part of thier reasoning, they say that if you had called they could have potentially sold the seat to a walk up and since you didn't they take your revenue.... SW does not do this, but I think DL does and I have no idea on USAir)

Thanks Carol! I will do that. My dad is really sick and I booked this when his future's outlook wasn't so grim. Both my sister and I are supposed to be going away and we both need to decide to risk it or not. But I am the only one with airline tickets. I think my DVC points will go into a holding account.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I am currently dealing with the day to day crisis of my boyfriend's mother so I know it's just very hard!

You might try appealing to DVC for the "one time only super secret banking excemption" Not sure if that works this close, but they tend to be good to work with.

Thanks, Carol. And I am sorry to hear about your boyfriend's mother. It is all about taking one day at a time but since these palns have benn made before it got so bad I am just super stressing out here!
I remember reading something about that on the DVC board. I may talk to them. Even if I have to do the holding, I might get lucky and get something within a 60 mark sometime. I don't want to lose my point but since my UY is Oct. I have a whole year to use them.
