With most airlines charging for a 2nd bag is there a way of shipping your luggage to your resort?

Sports Express will ship luggage to your resort through FedEx. It's pretty costly.

Delta, American and Southwest don't charge for the 2nd bag.

Actually, yes - believe it or not, the U.S. Postal Service!

All you do is zip-tie the zippers on your suitcase closed (no padlocks!), fashion a name/address (for both destination/return addresses) tag out of a piece of hard (read: non-flimsy) plastic (make sure to leave enough room on the tag for postage!) and zip-tie it to the suitcase handle, take it to your local U.S. Post Office (or, if you make your postage at home through usps.com, hand the bag over to your mail carrier), and your stuff is on its' way!

Typcially, 2 to 3-day Priority Mail postage from most hometowns in the U.S. to resorts in/around ZIP code 32830 is a little under $30 for a very well-packed (30-pound) suitcase.

It will be far cheaper to just pay the $25 to the airline than to ship a suitcase.

Rethink how much stuff you need. Put the heavier items, extra shoes for example, in your carry on bag. Consider getting a large duffel bag without wheels. Wheeled luggage has advantages but it can add 5-10 lbs to the weight of the bag. The frame necessary to support the wheels can reduce capacity by up to 1/3.

I believe only USAir and United/Ted are planning this new change in May. Remember, even though you can only check one bag up to 50lbs, you can take a bag (check guidelines) on the plane and stow in the overhead. This is what hubby and I plan to do when flying United/Ted. I booked my April/May trip on Southwest and Airtran, who presently do not have these restrictions. I know we'll be flying United/Ted for one of our trips as we have over 100,000 ff miles we need to start using, so will have to deal with the restrictions. We usually take 3 bags between us for a 2 week trip.

I am sorry, but I traveled for a month all over Europe and took one suitcase. Do people really need more than one? I even took 3 (count them) pairs of shoes. Do you really use all that stuff at home for two weeks? Okay, my semi-rant is over, to each his own but I couldn't fathom bringing more than one bag. . .

You do realize its charging for the second bag PER PASSENGER, right?

So if there are say, two of you going, do you really need 3 bags, not even counting carry-ons?

I am sorry, but I traveled for a month all over Europe and took one suitcase. Do people really need more than one? I even took 3 (count them) pairs of shoes. Do you really use all that stuff at home for two weeks? Okay, my semi-rant is over, to each his own but I couldn't fathom bringing more than one bag. . .

In December--and Pooh-sized--YES! My clothing requires a bit more space than that of someone smaller. Considering also that said clothing must span temperatures ranging from quite warm to freezing (by my standards), and more luggage is required. I also have to wear very supportive shoes for serious walking--old dancing/skating injuries have returned to haunt me. *eek* So I have two very large pairs of New Balance sneakers for the parks, plus one pair of Birks and one pair of walking sandals that double as sort-of-dressy.

I also travel with two or three books (usually 10-11 nights at WDW) just in case I have down time, and have been known to bring some hand sewing that needs to be completed! I don't like shopping or lazing by the pool, so I provide my own entertainment! *LOL*

Okay, I was pooh sized in Europe. . .but I get it. I have seen many people in the airport with 2 or 3 suitcases each. I know its not just here, I just guess I don't get it. . .I just ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to lug that much with me. . .but I guess its a personal choice.

Correct, to each his own....I for example, couldn't fathom bringing just one bag.

I think most people overpack. I travel for business and can pack everything I need in one small suitcase.

I think as Disney gets more packages at the resorts they are going to start charging to receive them. I know some of the convention hotels charge for receiving packages.

The OP didn't ask for opinions on her packing habits.

However there were options being given to the OP - ship a box, ship a suitcase, pay the overweight fee, or pack less.

I am a proud member of overpackers anonymous!! It's just going to be my DS5 & I going, but I plan on bringing 2 bags each (plus carry-ons) because I know that I will bring A LOT home with me. I always pack more than I will need, but oh well, better safe than sorry, right??
