Airfare Advice Needed

Thanks for the insight.
It'll be my 4 kids ages 10, 18, 22, and 25 and myself. At face value the savings is $240 TOTAL but I'm worried about spending much more than that after going to disney springs or finding other fun stuff to do that will cost us some extra $$.

we are a family of 4 and when we've gone there have been times it's been a substantial savings to take a much later flight but you're right-you have to balance out the cost of food and other expenses. if you are renting a car is later drop off going to cost more? will there be additional parking costs due to staying after check-out time? it all adds up.

I want to fly back (to Texas) out of MCO at 8pm instead of 12:40pm.

the numbers for this for us would be 2 extra meals per person b/c w/ a 12:40 departure we would eat a heavier breakfast to arrive at the airport at 10:40. even if we did fastfood outside the parks it would be tight to save much more than $50 which I wouldn't find worthwhile to have to deal with checkout/storing luggage/retrieving luggage (if not renting a car). when we did it we were looking at a minimum of $400 or more on flight savings so we would check-out at Disney and do a dayrate lowest category room at the airport hotel. people would either crash out and relax or swim until we absolutely had to head to TSA check-in (and we got snack food and sodas to take/ordered a pizza to the room to save on food costs).

Oh man. ABSOLUTELY GREAT advice and ideas. Thank you.

Those ages do make this easier. Sketch out what you would do and what you expect them to eat. At those ages it is easy enough to say no more souvenirs if we go to Disney Springs unless you're buying them yourself but the food could still bite you. Check the menus of where you plan to eat and see what your expected budget adds up to get the real financial picture.
great advice. Thank you.

It wouldn't be worth it to me for $240 for the whole family. When I am ready to go home, I like to just go the the airport and get home. Figuring out what to do that would be fun and having to have stuff out of the room is kind of a pain. Now $240 pp for your group, that is another story where that would be worth it to me.

Honestly an activity like mini golf for entertainment or the titanic attraction on I-drive or the wax museum and lunch for five would eat up all that savings. If doing something like that sounds fun on the last day, sure as you would practically break even. You have to figure about $30 pp for the activity and $15-20 pp for lunch. If no and getting home earlier sounds better do that.
