Aircraft hand baggage restrictions to be relaxed !!!

I'm guilty.. of a "bigger" size hand baggage, but it's the only case I'm taking, with a handbag which goes under the seat and has my book and stuff in it. It's a bag that is approved as handbaggage so I hope they don't get smaller...

I don't mind the size as much (as there is a maximum) what I can't stand is the people with about 10 bags! A case, a handbag, a computer bag, a coat, duty free (2 bags) and shopping bags with stuff they can't or don't know how to pack.

Quite. Not to mention the fact that they stand for ages, blocking the aisles and holding up boarding.

I remember our last flight out and a chap a few rows up had the biggest holdall as hand luggage - he struggled to get it in the overhead bin - holding up people trying to get past and then before we took off he must have got up about 4 times to get things out of the bag - each time he struggled to get the bag in and out of the locker! :)

:thumbsup2 :surfweb: I totally agree, we take as little as possible and manage with carry on consisting of one Timberland backpack for the camera +camcorder plus charger (all pocket size), my handbag for documents etc(not that big) and son's DS in his DS backpack with a few sweets and tissues/handy wipes. Nothing extreme... and it really annoys us when others try to take everything, including it seems the kitchen sink!! We try to travel with the minimum amount we can get by with and have always been fine up to now :thumbsup2

It is about time they let musical instruments on board again. Did anyone listen to Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 last week? The debate on that aspect was ridiculous. Let me see, yup, I can just about fit my violin in a jiffy bag...:confused3

I hope so

We've a short break to Dublin booked for next month & we are only booked in with hand luggage!

I know we can turn up & pay for hold luggage at the airport, but hoping not to have to.

Absolutely!
It really annoys me when I see people filling up the overhead lockers with these ridiculously large bags, which in some cases they even seem unable to lift without assistance, leaving no space for other passengers :(

I'm happy the rules look like they are about to be relaxed though :)

The problem is you don't know whats in those bags some people have to take a large bag on board due to the amount of medication they need so while it may annoy you it may be crucial for someone else

I accept that there may be the odd person that needs a bit of extra allowance in order to carry some medication or medical supplies. However given the previous maximum size of the bag I would find it difficult to imagine that they were allowed to fly on health and safety grounds if they required that amount of medication.

On the other hand I have experienced numerous examples of people boarding the plane with the preverbial kitchen sink in a hand luggage bag that they have trouble manouvering through the aisle and then lifting into the overhead bins.

I just hope that when the new limits are agreed that the airlines remain just as strict about the size and weight limits as they are currently. :)

Hope you wont all hate me if they ley me take my wedding dress into the cabin boxed!! I wont be rumaging in it though :)

wow so people should'nt fly if they require a lot of medication glad your not in charge of special needs for the airlines

you say you get annoyed. try paying for numerous letters from the doctors for the airlines, at least triple for your insurance and then finding out you are annoying other passengers by daring to bring your medication on board. sorry we are being so selfish
