Has anyone ever checked a bassinet before? DD will be 11 weeks when we head to WDW and I know she will never sleep in the pack and play the resort provides. I was thinking about just buying a new rock and play and having Babies R Us ship it to my resort, but then I saw something about being able to check a bassinet. Does anyone have experience with this? Check the bassinet or buy a new one to have waiting when we get there?

How big is it? You may get hit with and oversize luggage fee. Also, how sturdy? Can it survive luggage handling?

It is a Fisher Price a Rock and Play. Weighs 7lbs, folds up, and is fairly sturdy. I guess I should check with the airline bc if the fee is more than $60 I will just ship a new one to my resort from BRU.

Geez, I'm getting old. I had something much larger in mind made of wicker.

We have always rented crib/baby gear/etc whatever we needed from A Baby's Best Friend and have really been happy with them.

just remember that there is a chance that it might not arrive with you if checked not sure you can gate check it. also if taking shuttle it will not arrive at resort for 4 hours if checked

That bassinet looks pretty small. Put it in a box and check it. Check your airlines dimensions for checked luggage, but it doesn't look as if it will be oversized. Don't buy a new one; waste of money and looks like your baby won't fit in this much longer.

I'm not positive but I think if it's baby gear some airlines will let it slide even oversized. I was flying united a couple weeks ago and the lady in front of me was checking the largest pack and play I've ever seen. Once the ticket agent confirmed it was a crib they checked it free of charge for her even though it was technically too long.

That couple got lucky. United's policy is one free checked car seat and stroller, not any other baby equipment. It's possible this was one of the couple's checked bags. I have had United let some slightly oversized luggage be checked without a charge as well.

As far as the OP's bassinet, the dimensions are fine for checked bags It's not that large.

Your DD will soon outgrow that bassinet. You might start to transition her to a pack and play just in case she has a growth spurt just before you go. She may not like it at first, but sooner or later she will have to move to something else. The question is whether you are comfortable with the possibility of having her transition out of the bassinet just before you go rather than start her sooner and know it won't be a problem.
