Air travel snarled -- plan ahead

The news tonight emphasizes that the closure of the Denver airport, due to snow, is having ripple effects over a lot of the country. It's a major hub, and planes and flight crews aren't getting where they're supposed to be. Call ahead to see how your flights are doing, and take some emergency supplies to the airport with you (what would you want to have handy if you are stuck in an airport for several hours, or overnight?). Sounds like some folks are stuck at DIA for more than one night.

Guess it depends on what news you watch -- some report major snarls around the country -- others show lots of major airports with no problems.
Checking and planning ahead probably an extra good idea right now, tho.

DIA is a mess and will be closed until noon tomorrow, and even then it's likely that only a third of the runways will be operational so it will take awhile to get everyone out. Denver is a hub for United and Frontier, so it's caused lots of problems - especially for those poor folks who've been stuck at the airport since yesterday morning. The latest figures I've heard are 5,000 stranded at the airport and more than 2,000 cancelled flights.

So yeah, there's bound to be a ripple effect - but hopefully it will all pick up again tomorrow afternoon and everyone will be able to continue on their way home in time for the holidays.

1) If it is your plane that is cancelled, then it is a major problem.
2) Would Disney lop off days from resort packages and make appropriate refunds when guests are delayed arriving?
3) Santa's path as tracked by NORAD varies all over the map.
4) If I'm laid off, the country is in a depression.

Now many of us don't have the choice, but this Denver situation should get us thinking about trying not to make connections in any northern city in winter.

I would love not to make a connection in a northern city during the winter, but since I live in a northern city I have no choice. The only way out of here is to drive or connect to Milwaukee, Minneapolis or chicago. I do know that one year when coming home from Orlando there was a major blizzard going on. Our flight that was originating from Milwaukee was pushed out to the runway twice before it got out ( lucky people on that flight) and it was the captains choice as to whether we took off or not to return (unlucky us) ( I was ready to stay another day regardless where it was) In any case we flew back and had to drive 2 hours in a blizzard after digging our vehicle out to get home. This year NO DRIVING!
