I never have flown with Air Trans. Other than not being able to selecting seats until you check-in, has anyone had problems booking Web Secials or Discounted Coach tickets with Air Trans? Is this a fancy name for stanby tickets?

I've never had a problem purchasing web or discount coach seating. It's actually very simple. They walk you through it step by step. It's not standby seating. And you can check in and select your seats up to 24 hours in advance of departure.

Thanks. My concern is being bumped or a major flight time change (especially on the return as I need to be in work early the next day). We are traveling during holiday season. Are these seats treated any differently from regular fares?

you can't cancel & rebook w/o paying a change fee and you can only select your seats 24 hours prior.

we use AT frequently, have a great rewards program...only issue is their tendency to tweak their schedule times.

how much of a "tweak" are we talking about? I'm considering AirTran for our november cruise. We plan on arriving a day early, so that shouldn't be a problem. But if they make our 1pm flight home much earlier, we could miss it. Of course both ways we'd have to change planes in Atlanta, so a big time change could be a problem.

AirTran is brand new in our area, so I don't know anyone who's flown it. Would getting four seats together (or at least 2 and 2) be a problem if we check in 24 hours prior? We're flying the first week in November, so not exactly peak time. I'm really liking the schedule and the price of AirTran over the main airlines right now. But I'm hesitant since I don't know much about them.

With St. Louis being a new route for them I really couldn't say if or how much they'll "tweak" the times. They most likely will change them several times between now and Nov. I don't know what cruiseline you're taking. We have always gotten off the Carnival ships in plenty of time. In Feb. we were at the Miami airport by 10:30. The best suggestion I could give you would be to check the times of the later flights (Atlanta too) and see if anything would work for you in the event of a change that didn't work for you.

As far as seats together, I've never had a problem getting seats together as long as I booked them together and checked in online 24 hours out.

We really like flying Airtran and as stated above, they have a wonderful reward program. Sign up before you book your flights and be sure to use your number when you book. If you purchase gift certificates you get one credit for each $100 in gc. I buy those, have them credited to my A+ Rewards account and then immediately get online and book my tickets with it. You'll still get your flight credits when you fly.

Thanks for sharing this great tip! We've only flown SW before but are considering AT or USA3000 for our next trip as well. I too worry about schedules changing if I book airfare too far in advance, but I am also very impatient!

Thanks cbrfan. I believe there are a few flights later than the ones we would choose, so hopefully it wouldn't be a problem. Our cruise is out of Ft. Lauderdale and I know the pier is really close to the airport.

I've only cruised out of Miami so far but have heard that FLL is only about 5 min. away from the port.

AT is as reliable as I'd expect for a low-cost carrier. Usually only change flight times a few minutes up to 1/2 hour, worst over the past few years was elimination of evening NS flight entirely, with only one out being early in the am...had to deal w/a connection in ATL.

I've had them change departures 6 - 7 different times (without receiving an email notice thou they insist they send them). I just monitor it regularly.

We've never had problems getting 3 seats together, even on sold out flights where we didn't check in until we arrived at the airport; during peak periods.

Check with your cruise line as to suggested airline arrival/departure times. I was surprised that for our Dec. cruise out of Tampa a 2:30 p.m. arrival and 11:30 a.m. departure were a-okay> Carnival told me we could even self disembark (keeping our luggage & hauling it off the ship) and be on our way by 8:30/9:00 a.m.
