We are driving down to Seatle the night before our flight. Should we call that night (Seatle) to make sure our fight is still at the same time in the am?

We have two 4 yr olds and were planning on bringing a stroller for each. If we use them as carry ons, then we still can have a bag each for the children checked. Would they charge us extra for that? My stroller is like the regular strollers that fold in half only much smaller ($20).

Anything else I should know as we have never used Air Tran.

I like to use Air Tran as often as possible...Luggage restrictions have recently changed..so I don't know about the strollers...Hopefully, someone else on the board can answer that..Otherwise...I really like using Air Tran...so far..;) (And...I have used them several times.

You should be checking your flights regularly. Don't wait until the night before. All airlines change schedules and equipment. If your flight changes and the new flight you're assigned to doesn't work for you, check AirTran's site and see what flights they have available that will work. Then call AirTran and have them assign you to the flight of your choice. They will not charge you to do this, even if the new flight is more expensive. Also, check your seat selection, if you paid for advance seating as you may have to reselect them on the new flight. If your flight changes and they don't have anything at all that works for you, you can get a full refund. But keep a close eye on your flights right up to departure.

I can't help you on the stroller question with all the new baggage rules. Your best bet there would be to call or e-mail AirTran and ask them about carryons when you gate-check strollers.

I emailed Airtran about the stroller issue. I was informed if you gate check the stroller, it does not count towards your baggage allowance as it is considered a mobility device for your child. If you check it with your baggage, it counts as 1 piece of luggage.
(Same rule for carseats and booster seats.) I am printing out a copy of the email that they sent me to take to the airport just to make sure that there is not any confusion, though I am not quite sure if that will help!:goodvibes

So she could have one piece of checked luggage, the stroller (gate checked) and a carry on.

Do you know if the stroller also has to be as small as the carry on requirements?

We are flying from Seatle to Atl (7am-3pm), then to Orlando(6pm)-will they serve us any food?

She can have one piece of checked luggage (at no charge), one carryon item, one personal item (purse, diaper bag, laptop, etc.) PLUS the gate-checked stroller. It does not have to conform to carryone size, as it will be gate-checked and not carried on.

AirTran is a discount carrier, so they only served a small bag of pretzels or crackers. You'll probably want to bring your own food.

We used Air Tran last July when we went to Disney flying from Indianapolis, we gate checked a full sized stroller with an infant car seat and had no problems. It was acutally very nice because we could use the stoller until we boarded the plane, and then we had the stroller as soon as we got off the plane. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. We are flying Air tran in a few days and I was wondering about the same thing.

Unless you are flying Business class, I believe you have to pay for EVERY piece of checked baggage. The first bag is $15 (I think) and the second bag is $25. I don't believe there are any free bags, except in business class.
