We just traveled on AirTran and before they began boarding, they made several announcements asking people with strollers to come to the gate agent to get gate check tags.
Thanks! I just wanted to confirm that they did allow gate checking of strollers. It is easier (ans safer for the stroller) to gate check it than putting it in a stroller bag and having them just throw it in with the other luggage.

If you have a stroller bag, you may still want to use it.
Gate checked strollers still go in with the other luggage, it's just that they are more likely to be on top.
We are veterans of 20 years gate checking a stroller and then a wheelchair. Wheelchairs are much more sturdy than strollers are, but we have still had some small items of damage to DD's wheelchair over the years.
