We are going to book either Saratoga or OKW soon....renting points.

What is the policy...IF there is an official policy...about putting an air mattress to accommodate a sixth (child) person?

The various sites are all over the place on the air mattress question..........

The only way you can legally have a sixth person (and I assume you will be in a one bedroom) at OKW is is the 6th person is age 2 or under :) OKW accomodates 5 plus a child age 2 or under in a one bedroom villa

SSR only accommodates 4 plus and child age 2 or under in a one bedrrom

Hope this helps :)

The answers are all over the place because of the fire code regulations...you can not legally add more people than the room allows unless the extra person is under the age of 3. So for pretty much all rooms on property there isn't a need for an air mattress unless of course people prefer not to share a bed. I would call Disney and make sure they are allowed, they may not be allowed due to blocking an exit, etc.

You will not be allowed to register more than 5 people in a 1 bedroom at SSR. Doesn't matter how old they are. If the 5th isn't an infant who can sleep in the Pac 'n Play, you must provide the bed & linens for that person.

Non registered guests do not get magic bands, cannot use magical express or take advantage of extra magical hours.

OKW will allow 5 plus an infant.

The official policy is that the maximum room occupancy for a studio is 4+1 under age 3 (OKW or SSR), 4 (SSR) or 5(OKW) plus a child under 3 in a 1-bedroom and 8 (SSR) or 9 (OKW) plus the child under 3 in a 2-bedroom villa. SSR will allow a 9th person if staying on DVC points but will not provide linens for them and there is no bed for that person unless the owner/renter brings their own cot or mattress. The issue is not the air mattress. The problem is going over the room capacity.

On the time-share side, such as renting points, SSR will let you put 5 in a room, but will not provide bedding. There is only sleeping surfaces for 4. They will send you 5 magic bands.

You must make sure all the guests have been registered on the time-share side in advance.

At the resort, they won't be able to give you a working magic band for the 5th person.

On the hotel side you can only put 4 in a room.

I just check it on the online booking last night and it allowed 5 adults plus an infant in a 1BR at SSR.

The "fire code" answer doesn't hold any water. A number of the DVC resorts used to allow only 4 in a 1 BR. DVC unilaterally changed the occupancy for the 1 BR to 5 without adding any more bedding or subtracting occupancies in any other units. Bottom line is that fire codes have very little to do with the occupancy limits that DVC establishes. The appropriate answer would be to abide by the limits set by DVC, not by the "mythical" fire codes.

The fire codes can still apply if they did the calculations and determined they had enough egress for the extra person to evacuate. The under 3 is expected to be carried in an emergency, so they don't take up egress space. There might be enough exits, enough corridor width to still meet code requirements.

That makes sense and I suspect the number of guests that actually add the 5th person to the rooms is quite small.

That's a surprise. In the past, it didn't work that way.

We stayed at DVC 1 bedroom SSR in 2013 and 2017. We are a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 teen kids). We bring an air mattress and they have no issues with us booking. They always send us 5 magic bands.

We just returned from an Easter week 2018 OKW / BRV split stay week. OKW allows 5 and has 5 bedding options for 5 (a kings, pull out sofa, and pull out chair). BRV is just like SSR. You can book 5 but we bring our air mattress (we keep it in our owners locker).

Also, all you have to do is call housekeeping and they will send extra pillows and blankets. We have done it dozens of times.

We have enjoys many trips as a family of 5 with 3 teens. We always stay in a 1 bedroom
Old Key West - 5 beds
Boardwalk - Mattress
Beach Club - Mattress
Animal Kingdom Kidani - 5 beds
Saratoga - Mattress
Boulder Ridge Villas - Mattress

Have a great trip.

Yes, 5 has been allowed for some time. It was the 5 plus an infant that was the surprise.

I remember when it went from 4 plus an infant to 5 of any age. FWIW, I am still surprised that 5 plus an infant is allowed at SSR, BCV, BWV & BRV. It's probably just lazy programming and not really intentional.
