Air Conditioning while not in the room

I absolutely hate to be too warm when I'm sleeping. There's nothing worse than being hot all day (which is fine because it's OUTSIDE where it's supposed to be warm) then sweltering INSIDE where it's supposed to be cool. Has anyone noticed that some of the stores and attractions aren't as cool as they once were? I wonder if Eisner sweats bullets in his resort room when he's in town??

I would simply insist on an override if the CM pretends that it can't be done. It definitely can be, the resort sets the default temperature.

At AKL in October, you should be just fine. When we were there this past October, the climate control worked just great. I believe it did go off when you opened the door to the balcony, and it should. If we wanted it chilled down nicely, we would just close the balcony door again.

Don't worry; be happy:teeth:; you'll have a lovely trip!

I don't think you need to cancel your trip. We were there in May and it was stifling outside. October shouldn't be too bad. Hopefully if you do have to talk to someone about resetting the temperature on the thermostat they will be more helpful than the CM my DH spoke with. We encountered the same thing at CSR in a November week. The lady from maintenance who came to our room said because we were from up north we thought it was warm out at seventy degrees when the Floridians felt that to be a bit on the cool side. Ever since that trip I pack a small fan.

I agree with the 'unacceptable' crowd on this one. The absolute last place I want to sweat on vacation is while I'm trying to sleep !! Leaving for the Poly for 17 days on 7/2 and I am now stressing out.

This is really ridiculous...I just read about this on another thread about this A/C thing going on at PC... now I see that it's going to be a problem for us at GF staying concierge no less?
I have a real problem with resorts doing this- and especially Disney! How chincy are they now? For crying out loud... we don't like returning to a warm room and we darn sure don't want to get warmer at night when we're SLEEPING. I'll be darned if we're going to appreciate paying that much for a room to deal with this.. when we can stay in any flea-bitten hotel room and not have this going on!

This was really a STUPID idea..... to save a few bucks I guess. :(

Perhaps we should only have to pay for the room for the time we're in there and moving around. What a bunch of BS...

We stayed at AKL last Oct & Poly the May before that with the new systems installed and it was not a problem for us at night. Like another poster said, maybe having the ceiling fan on helped. But when it's crazy hot like it's been lately, they need to override the system!!!

I guess their winter months will get even busier... atleast it will with us- because I sure don't want to stay there when it's warm outside! It's one thing to have the room warmer when we're out and about during the day (but hello- what about those that go back to the room for little ones to take naps??) but it's quite another for the temp to rise when we are sleeping at night. I would probably be fine but I've got a husband and 2 out of my 3 children who are hotnatured and will sweat like crazy and be miserable all night if the room doesn't keep cool at night. And I don't even want to THINK of how cranky my husband would be after not sleeping well during the night. He's not all that keen on going to Disney this often anyway.

ugh!
It's making me rethink staying GF concierge now. If we're going to have to deal with this it's making me think maybe we should stay all stars again and save the money.. or stay offsite at a hotel that doesn't cheap out on the a/c. :(

Am I the only one that is cold at night? I've never found a room with motion sensors hot at night (or during the day for that matter) In fact I end up wearing socks and pajamas to bed because I'm chilly. We usually end up increasing the temperature in the room.

We just returned yesterday from a split stay at the Polynesian and Contemporary.
At the Polynesian the rooms stayed cool at night. It was a different story at the Contemporary. The room did have the sensors. I didn't mind it during the day, because it really didn't take that long for the room to cool off once we were back in the room......but it was terrible during the night. It would be so warm in the room that it would wake me up. I would get out of bed and flap my arms around so the air would go on, then get back in bed lol!! I am one that doesn't usually get warm when I sleep and sleep in a sweatsuit most of the year(we live near Chicago).
We also always bring a small fan for the "white noise" sound.
The room definetly got warm.

If she ever comes up North in January, I wonder how she would like shoveling two feet of snow outside of her hotel door with her complaints being met with, "You people down South just can't deal with a little snow."

No, I am the same way. When we stayed at the YC (01), EVERY time we returned to the room, it was freezing cold. At night it was cold...This was in JULY... I was constantly turning the AC 'down', LOL (or is that up?). I love AC, but I don't like to feel cold. we usually keep our home AC set at 77 deg in the summer...so maybe is part fo the reason we were uncomfortable. 70 is way to cold for me...

It doesn't take all that long for the rooms to cool off when you come in from the parks. I have a problem with it getting up to 74 at night. I shouldn't have to walk around the room in a deluxe resort in the middle of the night to set off the sensors so the room will be cool enough to sleep in.

Bojangles I am SO with you on that one! What are they thinking??

This is so great..... doesn't this sound like a lovely vacation? So well rested to enjoy the day at Disney... after spending the night getting up to flap your arms and walk around so you can have a/c.
If I wasn't upset by this- I'd find it laughable... like a joke or something. But obviously it's real- so I'm not happy.

For the one that asked about being the only one that gets cold at night- nope... I do. But we're a family of 5 and surely you don't expect the ENTIRE family to always all be the types that get cold at night? We're 3 out of 5 that are hotnatured and will sweat to death if we don't keep the a/c atleast at 70... atleast. And we're Texans- so don't give me anything about not being used to heat. We're used to heat- but we're used to sleeping with a/c too! LOL Never heard of such nonsense having a/c's where you have to get up and move for them to stay on. Whoever thought of this must have been drunk or something.... and got everyone drunk to agree with them. For crying out loud- did they not THINK that to make it work only with motion sensors that it meant people sleeping aren't going to register as there? Did they not think about how miserable this is going to make people who are there on VACATION to have this problem every night of their stay? Or did they ONLY think about the $$ signs? *sigh*

Where is the sensor? Maybe I can just maneuver my oldest to sleep near that thing- she moves so much in her sleep maybe she can keep the a/c on.

I called the front desk (AKL) and was told that it could detect you moving around in your sleep. Nonsense. I had to walk around in the middle of the night to get it to go back on. It was cooler in the damn hallway than in our room at night. Frankly, I can pay less money and stay at Hilton GVC by Seaworld with a washer/dryer, full kitchen, whirlpool tub, big screen TV and about 4 times the square footage.

I know at work we can't leave balloons in the rooms with security motion sensors because they set off the alarms.

I wonder if getting a couple of balloons for the rooms would work? If there is some kind of air blowing around the room, then the balloons would keep moving, but would that be enough to kick the AC back on?

I thought of that but then I remembered that AKL doesn't allow balloons.

I shouldn't have to rig something up to cool the room off at night. We all pay a premium to stay onsite. Heck, we would leave the room to refill our mugs at Mara and it would be hot in there again by the time we got back. :earseek: We go during the summer and this year it was almost 100 degrees outside. I like to come back to a nice cool room and not wait the 15 minutes for it to cool off.

On my last trip for Memorial day at the Poly, I bought a mickey balloon and used my spray fan all night facing it to keep the AC on. I tied the spray fan to the door stopper of the closet and left the balloon close to the door. That kept the air conditioner on all night. It was worth the couple of batteries that I used for the cool air from the air conditioner. Its too bad that wont work at AKL. I am glad my next trip is in December.

The comment about no balloons at AKL caught my eye.... never heard of that before.

But in any case, having to do all this stuff to keep the a/c on at night is RIDICULOUS. Is this how Disney wants to be known? The place that is so cheap you have to resort to all sorts of things just to keep the a/c on in your deluxe expensive resort room no less?

ugh! Even in the values it's ridiculous and unacceptable. *sigh* I sure hope all hotels and resorts don't start doing this.

Since balloons aren't allowed at AKL, my DH suggested hanging a shirt on the ceiling fan and turning it on. Could work....

The shirt just cracked me up because just at the moment before I saw that I was thinking..... PANTYHOSE!

Can you imagine the look on the mousekeeper's face if she walked in in the morning and they were still hanging there! LOL

By the time you came back from the parks it would be all over the resort and CM's would be looking at you funny!
