Air Conditioning while not in the room

If she ever comes up North in January, I wonder how she would like shoveling two feet of snow outside of her hotel door with her complaints being met with, "You people down South just can't deal with a little snow."

How true!! Our blood may be a little thicker, but that's no excuse for their ridiculous AC systems.

I know at work we can't leave balloons in the rooms with security motion sensors because they set off the alarms.

I wonder if getting a couple of balloons for the rooms would work? If there is some kind of air blowing around the room, then the balloons would keep moving, but would that be enough to kick the AC back on?

Ah-a! It's marketing ploy so we buy more balloons!

Balloons don't work. We had both a Mickey balloon and one of those giant Tinkerbell ones at the Poly. We still had problems with the A/C.

all right, I'll admit to skipping this thread thinking it was only a whiner for during the day - I am now a whiner!! I refuse to sleep at 74 degrees...

I wondered how that contraption posted earlier would work, I'm staying at the poly - and thought I would buy a battery operated fan and a balloon if it works...

thanks for telling what works and what doesnt, I'm a light sleeper, so I guess me getting up flapping my hands around is the only option I have, so be it!! uggggg

I keep hoping someone will come along and say this is a joke, or a malfunction in one of the rooms or something. :(
*sigh*

We were at Pop Century last week and it was hot outside. I am a person that keeps my house very cold at night to sleep and we were actually cold when we woke up in the morning and no one got up to use the bathroom at night. We were very happy with our room!!

unfortunately it isn't. :( I'm sure it's a much bigger issue for those of us that go during the summer, though.

I know that I read either on these boards, or over on RADP about a woman who was at one of the deluxes and she wrote a report and told how you could easily override these thermostats yourself. Her husband took the cover off, and obviously did SOMETHING, I just can't remember what. She said that before they left for home, he reversed what he had done to the thermostat. Does anyone else remember this?

I just googled and couldnt find anything, but at least there seems to be some hope.... otherwise my dh may end up with a "medical condition"

LOL
Funny you should mention that- because I was already thinking in my mind (but not saying... till now ofcourse LOL) that my Mr. FixIt could probably figure out a way to fix that darn a/c to work right. LOL But I thought it might be locked or something- in which case he couldn't.......

Our next trip is in Feb- but future trips are probably always going to be in the summer since our oldest is getting older (darn her! LOL) and school is bound to get harder- so we won't want her to miss even a day or two for vacation.

Unless this person was a licensed electrician, I am afraid that would be considered putting others in a harms way. Is it really worth the risk of starting an electrical fire. :(

I do think they are locked which means you would have to break the lock, which I guess would be considered vandalism, to tamper with it.

Just to chime in here. We stayed at AKL the first week in May. I like it COLD when I sleep. We set the thermostat at 66 degrees and turned on the ceiling fan. We stayed cool all night. No problems. It wasn't nearly as hot as now, only in the low 80s during the day, but we didn't have a problem. In fact, even I got a little chilly and had to turn off the fan a couple of nights

I also like it to be very cool in my room when I sleep. On our first stay at the GF in October 2002, we realized that the motion detector would prevent the AC from coming on while we slept, and almost every night, I awoke, WARM, and noticed that the temp in the room was about 76 degrees (:crazy2: :faint: )! I would then sit up and wave my arms to turn it on again. It was a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless. When we returned to the GF 1 year later, I was concerned about this, but although we were in Conch Key again, we had no problems. We set the temp at 69 and the room was nice and chilly all night. This past April/May at the CR, it was hot outside, but nice and cool in our room all night, so I'm a little confused about the thermostats - it seems that they may not all be set the same way, even within the same resort.

Oh, BTW, there definitely was a thread on the DIS, maybe last year, in which someone in-the-know described how to manually override the thermostat, no harm done, but I don't remember which buttons he said needed to be pressed simultaneously for a few seconds...:o

it was in the upper 90's almost every day when we were there.

I just did a search and found the post with the instructions - maybe this will help someone:

As I recall, you have to hold down the far left key and the temp down key at the same time. The display will then read:6P. after a few seconds, you should be able to reduce the temp and it will function normally (without the sensor).

Well I'm relieved... because if it CAN be done- my husband can do it. ;) If it's locked though.. that's where we'll be in trouble because I won't want him to unlock it and darn sure wouldn't want him to damage it in the process of trying to unlock it. We'll just have to insist that someone override the darn thing while we're there...

We're heading to WL this Christmas. I like the bedroom very cool at night, even in winter. Do the rooms get hot at night during the winter, too? Does it help if the balcony door is left open? Thanks!:wave2:

Since we can all agree that this is a stupid idea - whether it REALLY bothers us (like me), only slightly bothered us, or doesn't bother us at all - how can we go about expressing our view to Disney? Since it's not a specific resort issue, where do we write to tell them that we may start staying off-site where we're not forced to sweat at night or get up and flap our arms around or rig up complicated contraptions?? I'm sure we wouldn't be the first to complain, but if we do it in a great number, maybe our future trips won't involved sweating, getting up at night or engineering.

Does anyone have the e-mail address of the place that would be appropriate to hear this issue?

I'm going to try pressing those buttons at the same time and see if that works - if ONLY it were that simple, I'd be thrilled! My DH is a licensed electrician, however, as an attorney, I advised him NOT to take the cover off and fiddle with the thing! :D

Pressing the buttons on the thermostat in a certain sequence is the answer! Last year at the Coronado a maintaince person came to our room as it was to hot and showed me what to do to over ride the motion sensor. Sorry I don't remember the sequence? Maybe someone else can help. I'm sure they don't want us to know! Just don't believe them when they say it can't be done! I did it!
