Air Conditioning while not in the room

At most deluxe resorts, the A/C does not run once you leave the room. Is there a way to keep the A/C running while you atre out and about? This bugs me a little bit, especially in the Summer as it is disappointing returing to a hot room.Still, I'd rather return to a hot room at WDW then not.

We have never experienced this problem at any resort.

We were just at AKL/deluxe and we set the temp digitally and it was always just that temp when we got back.

I have never returned to a hot room either, as a matter of fact some times the Mousekeepers turn the thermostat down when cleaning the room then the room is real cool

when we return.

It depends on what resort you're at. At the BWI, the AC doesn't work on a motion senser, at the GF it does. If the sensor doesn't detect someone in the room, it doesn't matter what the digital setting has been put on, it defaults to something like 74. When we used to stay at the GF, this was a huge problem for us. I love the heat outside, not inside. These thermostats were put in during the room refurbishment.

We called concierge and they told us that someone would adjust the default temperture for us (I think we kept it at 68). It only lasts 3 days though, then you have to call and have it reset. By the way, they will do this in any room, not just concierge. For a long stay like we always have, it was was a bit of a pain though (we hated to keep bothering them).

It's not that the A/C turns off... the A/C stays on. However, when the room is not occupied, it will go into energy saver mode, and it won't cool the room as much. When you come back to the room, you're hot from outside, so the temperature difference makes the room still feel cool. Once it detects you in the room, it will resume the regular temperature.

We ran into this for the first time at the Poly in May. Previously we have stayed in the unrehabbed longhouses but this time we got Samoa. When we returned to the room it was HOT. The A/C kicked on as soon as we walked in and it cooled off in about 10 minutes but those minutes seems much longer. After being out in the heat all day the last thing you want is to return to a hot room. I do think this is one time where Disney is being extremely cheap. If I'm paying $350 a night for a room I should be able to keep it 30 degrees whether I'm in the room or not. I'm paying for the room! Even at night if you didn't move around it got hot. I had to keep getting up and moving or turning the thermostat down to kick it back on.

I totally agree. I applaud WDW's many environmental efforts, but please give us our cool room temperatures. My fiance and I often said to one another, "Mrs. Seinfeld, pleeeeease turn on the air conditioning!!"

We had the opposite problem...we left POR for the day and returned to a FREEZING COLD room...we froze our butts off until the heat kicked in. Every evening it was the same! I wish mousekeeping would have re-set the thermostat!

BRRRRRRR!!!!!

Thanks for the info on the overide. We love it cold at night. So I will definately have them reset it for us.

I had this problem at one room in GF and they came and reset it. We were there in August and at night, when we weren't moving, it shot up to 80 degrees in the room! One night, I sat in the lobby from 12:30am until 2am until they could get someone to fix it. Who can sleep when it's 80 degrees in the room!??!

I'm praying this doesn't happen at AKL since we'll be there for 10 nights and we would hate to have to keep bringing them in there, but I will if I have to. I need it cool when I'm in the room and I refuse to be uncomfortable on my vacation. There should be some kind of override for nighttime, at least!

Our room at the Dolphin had a control for the AC as well. Whenever we would open the door to the balcaony it would shut off until the door would shut. Also, when we would come back from teh parks it would be warm in our room. However, after about 5-10 min it began to cool down.

Wow, I've never heard of this before and it seems so strange to me! They should definitely fix the nighttime energy saver,,that would make me crazy.

The motion detector at CR is a lot better than at Pop. At CR its in the middle of the room, at POP its in the corner of the room. Unless I am sleeping on the TV or dresser it doesn't know you are there. I've read that they fixed this at Pop but it was not true on our last visit (may 29). I've stayed there 3 times and every time you could set it at 70 but the room never got below 76. I would set it on high and after a few minutes it would go to auto. We'll probably just bring a table fan that way at least we keep the air moving.
We did not have that problem at CR. Yes, when returning to the room it was not as cold as we like it but in the middle of the night it did not heat up either. Most of the time it was cold (we love a cold room). The ceiling fan might have been the key. I live in South FL and I love a cold house. Thank goodness for my programmable thermostat.

We stayed at ASmusic in April and whatever you set your room at is what it was when you came back.

I was very worried about the Ac on motion at the Poly and did ask the other day when I called if this was true, the CM told me that it can be set on energy saver, but it can also be set for normal use, I let her know it was important that my husband be kept comfortable at night while sleeping, I don't want him stressing, My DH at 44 had a mini stroke in November which we're greatful only effected his one eye with double vision, she reasured me we could over ride it ourselves.
I'm hoping she's right

We stayed Poly LVC at the end of May. As far as we could tell, there was no way we could override the A/C system ourselves. We would set the air at 69-70 before we left for the parks but it would be at 74+ when we returned. As soon as we entered the room the A/C would kick in and would cool the room very quickly. Same at night; if you were not moving around, air would not kick on/circulate. It would have been nice if there was an override system but we were unaware of it........definitely did not detract from our overall stay but make sure to ask how the override works when you check in if it is important to you.

I don't care if it turns off during the day while we're out - I'll wait a few minutes for it to cool down, but at night?!?! What were they thinking??????

We had this problem at AKL and my DH asked twice if there was any way to set the thermostat a bit lower so it wouldn't get so warm while we were sleeping and he was told there wasn't anything they could do without calling maintenance in and reporting it broken which it wasn't. I too cannot sleep in a warm room. I realize we were there during an extremely hot week but we shouldn't have had to be uncomfortable in a room with the A/C on.

Well....I left the Poly when the CMs wouldn't do anything about the kids playing basketball in the hallway and I almost checked out of GF when the party next door to me wouldn't quiet down (they actually did something about it) and I won't have any problem leaving AKL if it's uncomfotable for me.

I refuse to pay this much money to be uncomfortable. You know...I'm annoyed enough about it to cancel my trip altogether.
