Air Canada, any chance they will give us a seat for our DD 10 months ?

We didn't book a seat for our DD, but I'm wondering if there are open seats if they would let us have one for our DD 10 months. Plan on checking her car seat and base to use with our rental car. Should I ask at check-in about this or is there no chance of this happening ?

You can always ask, but I wouldn't be surprised if you get turned down flat. Since you have not purchased a seat for your 10 month old child you have no reasonable expectation of there being a seat available for your child.

BTW.....They must be the most useless ,national carrier we've ever had the displeasure of flying with.

They will give you seat once the plane door closes. if the seat beside you is empty you can use it. We use to do this all the time before our last one turned 2. Keep in mind the chances of it happening are slim but as long as you ask the ladies always accomodate kids.

Yeah I knew once we were on the plane if there was an open seat next to us or nearby that someone was willing to move, we could have it. But I guess my reason for asking would have been to use our car seat but that would require not checking it and bringing it up with us and then gate checking if there was no seat for DD.

The flights aren't too long so we'll probably be alright. We go from Halifax to Montreal and then from Montreal to Orlando. Hopefully we can keep DD amused with toys and snacks. She's walking already at 10 months so hopefully they don't mind me walking up and down the aisle with her a few times, she just loves it.

I've flown AC quite a bit and they aren't that bad. Although I haven't used many other airlines to compare too. Westjet was nice because of the tv's in the headrests and the staff seemed more pleasant. This will be our first time flying with DD.

The staff are much more pleasant...and funny at Westjet(no bias here lol). I do know if you want to bring a car seat you have to buy a seat. If you are holding her you can get one as you said. The longest flight we have taken with our three kids is 4 hours. This direct flight from Calgary is five hours. I am unsure of how our ds who just turned 4 will manage. Needless to say we are in row 25 and 26 so we are not bugging too many people, we will get drinks first and I got a great deal on a portable dvd player on boxing day for all those dora, cars, toopie and Diego movies.

That works...usually...but there's always a chance that somebody will be in the middle and then you're sunk. While flying back from Vegas on AC in December, we found out our flight wasn't full so I asked if we could be reseated so that we we had some extra room (there were four of us). Instead of putting us 3 in a row and then 1 across the aisle, she put us two and two...but near the back of the plane. She said she couldn't guarantee if anybody would sit between us...but the likelihood at the back of the plane was less than if we sat in the front. She was right...more people sat at the front than at the back.
