AI: Did Anyone Else Notice Something Weird About Wednesday Night?

Watch the clip carefully & see how the audience was going on with their reaction & then suddenly everyone seemed to have frozen & look at all the facial reacation.
Yup, I watched my (totally undoctored) recording of the program again, which is still on my TiVo, and indeed, nothing like that was said. Nothing. Rather, people were generally stunned that it was Mandisa going home instead of Elliot.

I just listened to it a few times and I think it was just the shock that she was the one leaving.

I really hope that no one yelled that- that is a horrible thing to say! :furious:

I don't believe this rumor because NO ONE in the audience turned around. Replay the tape again and see that no one looked back into the audience to see who said that. I can't imagine everyone would turn and look but I would think the majority would and everyone still was looking at the stage.

I am positive no racial slurs were screamed. TIVO is your friend :thumbsup2

I bet the audience was just shocked that Mandisa was going home, while Bucky still got to stay :rotfl:

That bottom three was so very wrong. :furious:

I wouldn't say that the bottom three was "so very wrong": Yes, Bucky should have been in there, and perhaps Mandisa should have been fourth-from-the-bottom, but other than that, the voting seemed to be right-on-target this time, AFAIC.

For those of you who are saying you didn't hear it, are you saying that from re-watching your TIVO, or have you listened to and watched the clip posted in this thread? I re-watched my DVR and couldn't tell, but I watched the clip on here and you can definitely hear 'it.' Listen closely in the background when they flash to Elliott's family after the announcement. (Turn your speakers way up.) I can distincly hear 'bye, bye N-----!'
(oh, do I hate that word! It's hard for me to even type it with dashes.)

I listened to the clip via the link on this thread and I don't hear anything. I seems like you can hear someone say "bye, bye", but I even think that I am hearing that b/c I am trying to hear that. KWIM?

Anyway, the audience does seem stunned, but I think b/c of Mandisa's exit, not b/c of any racial slur. Again, not one person in the audience has their eyes off of the stage.

I don't hear it either...not even the "bye-bye".

You don't think that if someone shouted that out that Ryan, Mandisa and Elliot would have at least looked out into the audience toward the slur shouters. It just doesn't add up. I'm with Bicker...slow news day...

There are people who were there who say that nothing was said and that the story has been fabricated.

If you look at Paris' face after the "comment" was supposed to have been made, it is not the face of a person who's race has just been insulted.

I just think that people did not know whether to clap or boo because clapping meant you were glad Mandisa left and booing would mean that you thought Elliott should have left. I think the audience was just trying to be polite.

With Woopee Goldberg in the audience and Chris Rock in front of her, I think we would have heard something more than silence.

There are also people who are saying that the sound bites that apparently have the "word" on them have been editted to have some extra stuff and are different than the exact same sound bites that are going around. Sound bytes are very easy to augment.

Generally, I think the rumour is being dismissed by the major message boards since there really doesn't seem to be any supporting evidence.

I also heard rumours that it wasn't an "n" word but the word "bigot" that was said because of the whole anti-gay story that was going around.

The whole AI cast seemed just way too happy when Mandisa was doing her sing out for anything like that to have just transpired.

How can anyone say the voting was "wrong"? People vote for who they like and how can someone's opinion make others wrong? Just seems strange.

Anyway, I couldn't hear the racial slur either. I hope that it didn't happen!

Well, there is a pause in the quiet moments before everyone stands up where you can hear stuff being yelled in the background, but I can't make out what is being said.

I was amazed that she was thrown off. She is the most talented person on that show
.

Something must of happened, besides just the shock of her name beimng announced. If you watch the clip, Ryan announces Mandisa, and the jeers start building, then complete silence, shocked silence.

If the audience was reacting in shock to Mandisa's name, the silence would of come 1st, as they processed what they were hearing, then the jeers would of started. But the jeers started, and then HALTED. Then, everyone, slowly gave her a standing O. You can see the other contestants, looking around, in shock and horror.

As for why this did not make it onto major news media, I am glad. It would only incite anger and things might get ugly. It may also encourage other pigs to try and do the same thing, for the media attention. The girls who did that do not deserve one second in the spotlight.

I listened to it a few times and didn't hear anything. :confused3

Damo...I clicked on your Kalan link. HOLY COW! That boy can sing.

How can anyone say the voting was "wrong"?
To be fair, until there is a one-person-one-vote system put in place, claims that the voting was "wrong" are more than valid. The vote results are biased towards people who have more friends, or who have more technical-saavy friends, not towards folks with more talent.

I've listened and watched it over again almost a dozen times now, on three separate occasions. There is nothing there to hear; nothing there to see. The most convincing evidence of this is what was mentioned before: Chris Rock was in the audience. If anything like that actually happened, you KNOW Chris Rock would be sure we knew.

I also cannot hear anything for sure. Here's the exit tape with the East Coast feed. Folks on the west coast basically saw none of this.

American Idol 4/5/06

Actually, this is exactly what I saw. And I'm in California. I do think something happened, not sure what. But they gave her a standing ovation. I don't think they did that for any of the previous contestants that got booted off, did they? But I'm not sure. I was thinking maybe the audience did that to take away the sting of whatever it was that happened.

That's exactly what Lauri and I were saying. SOMETHING must have been said because of how it happened... crowd reaction and THEN a complete silence accompanied by shocked looks. It may just be that the microphones didn't pick it up - maybe they were too far back in the audience. I can only hope that Mandisa didn't hear them but if something was said and that was the reason for Taylor, Katharine and Paris's reaction, she probably did.

I can also understand AI doing damage control to keep something like that out of the mainstream media. No TV show in their right mind would want a story like that stuck on them.

I can't really argue that the voting system itself is wrong. I detest it and really wish that they would limit calls. The problem I have is anyone saying how the voting should be because we really don't know what would be "right" under the present system.

Anyway, way off topic. And this topic is highly disturbing. I do wonder why no one from the press has mentioned this incident or have they?

I sincerely hope that this is not true. Slightly OT, but I was absolutely shocked that Mandisa was voted off. I missed Tuesday night's performance and I heard that it was not her best night, but overall I thought she was the best pure singer in the competition. Mandisa's going places though.....her self confidence alone will get her to where she wants to be. I have admired her from the beginning when she addressed Simon and his cruel comments about her size. She's great!!

I suspect the press hasn't mentioned it because all indications are that it is an Internet fabrication, and respectable news organizations have been really badly snagged by such fabrications in the past.
