Ahoy! Sailing the Wonder 2/8/09

Bad news on the shuttle launch.

NASA delays shuttle launch
Posted: 11:18 PM ET
(CNN) — Launch of the space shuttle Discovery has been delayed at least a week, NASA has announced.

The shuttle will now lift off no earlier than February 19 because of concern over a valve in the main engine. A decision on the launch date will be made February 12, after more analysis and testing of the part.

NASA said Tuesday night: “The valve is one of three that channels gaseous hydrogen from the engines to the external fuel tank. One of these valves in shuttle Endeavour was found to be damaged after its mission in November. As a precaution, Discovery’s valves were removed, inspected and reinstalled.”

Thanks for posting this Jill. I had to call my husband on his way to work and tell him. He had been really looking forward to the launch!!

We are on another snow day. After being out all last week, now today, I'm REALLY sick of snow!

I think I'll thaw out with Mickey though!!!

awww. My DH is pouting like a little boy now. He really wanted to see the shuttle launch.:sad2:

too bad about the launch. We were looking forward to it. Wonder if I can convince my wife to hang around until it does launch?:rotfl2:
well we are driving south tonight. So to all, have a safe journey and see you on the WONDER:thumbsup2

Yeah, very disappointing about the launch but we knew it was a strong possibility, it seems these things never go off when they're supposed to. :sad1:
People are starting their travels, how exciting! :jumping1:
We are 3 days off from travel but I know that will fly by.
Safe trip to you all, see you at the goofy pool at 3 on Sunday! :earseek:

Thanks for the update Jill, but kind of sweet and sour.

Those that hoped to tour KSC can now do so without worrying. And those that looked forward to seeing the launch won't get to.

Pj

I know...I am sad...I was really looking forward to seeing a launch again. :(

There aren't a lot of them left until they retire the shuttles.

we are leaving early in the morning-can't wait to finally meet you all at the Goofy pool at 3pm Sunday and put faces with screen names!::yes::
so... see ya real soon!::MickeyMo
safe travel everyone!

Traveling mercies to those of you already on the road or leaving soon! I'm looking forward to our meet on Sunday. We are really disappointed that the launch has been scrubbed, but I'm not really surprised. We ended up with almost 2 inches of snow on Wednesday! We even went to school on a regular schedule with is almost unheard of around here. Our attendance was down significantly! People just don't go out when the weather gets snowy around these parts. The rest of the week will be COLD :goodvibes but in the bahamas its mid 70's - so I keep reminding myself of that. I'm going to try and finish the packing tonight so I can clean tomorrow, :laundy: we will be off Saturday morning!
Kathryn - thanks for the initials

We are leaving tomorrow morning. Packing tonight, and will load car in the am and off we go. It seems like the snow just keeps threatning our drive down. Northern IN, got socked with like 24" of snow but I thankfully its just a bit more east of where we have to go. And now with KY getting another batch it should make it an interseting car ride down.

For those still left to travel, Iwish you all nothing but safe travels.

We too are bummed about the shuttle, but safety for those astronauts is much more important.

Safe travels to all! I'm heading to the airport tomorrow afternoon. Can you believe that it is actually warmer in Denver than it is in Florida?? We are going to hit 70 here today but snow on Sunday...as I'm boarding the ship! Whoo hoo!

Note to self: must check in online for my SW ticket this afternoon.

Good luck with your journey. From what family has said 57 through IL to 24(through Paducha) is clear. All of our snow in SW IL has cleared and although it has been cold- no more snow. Also we are supposed to get up to almost 60 tomorrow here, so hopefully clear skies for you also.

Hi to all.Found this link, and it seems there will be several wonderfull people cruising with me and my grandson.Lucky us.I'm new to all this. I've enjoyed reading all the post. Some have already begun their journey,as for us we leave Saturday mornning from Nashville. We'll be at the Magic Kingdom for the day. This is a surprise trip for my grandson.I can hardly wait to get started.Has anyone lined up someone to take some pictures of the Wonder leaving port from one of the webcam sights?I would love to have one but have no one that can help me out.Sorry so long.I wish I had found this sight earlier, and could have shared more.Safe travels to all!!!A Wonderfull cruise awaits!

Welcome Nanny. We too leave from Nashville on Saturday. Wouldn't it be funny if we were on the same flight. We are taking our 2 grandkids but no disney world this trip just the cruise. Hope to see you on board.

Welecome Nanny,

We are meeting at the Goofy Pool at 3:00pm on Sunday for a group photo and a chance to meet fellow Diser's, maybe we will get to meet there.

Pj

I appreciate the welcomes.Everyone seems so nice.I have learned so much valuable information.I do hope to meet some of you if not all.I'm feeling anxious, everything is in order but the waiting is getting to me!Trying to pull off the surprise is getting harder.

Well, the "last" load of laundry is in, and I'm onto all the last minute details as we prepare to leave. I don't delude myself--DD will come up with some "must haves" that will mean another load tonight. OH..and there is a mandatory book for school reading but the nearest book store doesn't have it and the store at school doesn't have it. So, I will add to my "to do" list running to a farther away Borders where the computer says it is in stock and the clerk has promised to hold one. I wouldn't mess with it, but time en-route
is good reading time!

Blessings to all....safe trips....see you on Sunday!

Good morning! I'm getting the boys ready for school, and thinking about the last minute loose ends I need to tie up.Most have already begun their travels, the rest of us are about to begin ours. The wait is finally over.Weather reports look favorable as we all take to the road,or sky!Blessings, and safe travels to all.
