Ahoy! Sailing the Wonder 2/8/09

Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow(from yesterday)
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear?.............

Just more snow falling today!!! It is relentless.

My only hope can be that when we come back from the cruise (bite my tongue for saying that:sad: ) we would have had a heat spell to melt it all and let spring begin. Maybe I can ask Mickey for a little of his magic when we get onboard.:genie:

Anyone read my message about activities? Do we have to sign up now or wait? Do they ever fill? I will call DCL today if no one is on to reply, just hate the wait on the phone, but they are always so nice:thumbsup2

To all you list makers, I have 6 already just for this one trip. "What to pack, What to buy, What to wear, etc.....It goes on and on......:scratchin. I just do mine on the computer and save it. My first one started years ago with my first trip and every year I just modify it. I never loose it and I don't have to buy paper (except one piece to print it out :rotfl: ) Because I was never on the cruise before and wasn't sure where to begin, I started with a list from a thread(below) and kept adding to it based on what all of you have told me :thanks:

threadid=468132

(can't post that yet only at 6....4 more!!)

I have the day off with my kids. Very rare! So we are going to see Hotel for Dogs. Not a disney :guilty: , so no need to worry they will be playing it on board. Later I will work on my signature. DD has looked over my shoulder and caught wind of the DIS. She wants tink next to her name. She has LOVED all the pictures. It has made her soooo excited. She was also ready to begin a kids only thread, but I told her its too late for that and maybe next year.

2grtbrits: is that disney snorkel gear and vest? So cute!! how did the underwater pics come out?

Sorry, this was a long one. Hope I didnt put any of you to sleep:angel:

My daughter has been emailing with one of the little girls from this group! It has been great! If any others are interested please let me know. She is 8.

My son is now jealous, and would like to email as well. Actually, he'll dictate and I'll email!! He is 6. So if there are any other boys who would like to email prior to boarding let me know! I think it will help him to have a friend in the Club, since my daughter will be in the Lab this time!

Kelly, you don't sign up ahead for the specific activities in the kids clubs (flubber, nestle choco chip cookie making). Our experience is they are never full, I think if you're in the club at the time and want to do that activity you're in.

Are these listed in the navigator? We some how missed all these on our last cruise.

Just wondering for curiosity sake...what kind of stuff(other than clothes) is there needed to be purchased for the trip?

We are not bringing much more than that other than sunblocks, and tolietries. Since this is our first cruise we are going to more wing it and adjust for future cruises. I don't want to overpack. This is all new to our family. But we can tell exactly what we need for a WDW trip. Its kinda good feeling so green for this trip.

We are bringing our own snorkel gear. As well as Sand toys for CC. They are very expensive to buy on the island. Walmart had a GREAT set out for $10.

Plus we have all our FE stuff.

The activities in the Club do occasionally fill (I've never seen them full in the Lab or teen programs!). A few thoughts--always arrive a few minutes before the scheduled activity and plan a bathroom stop either at the cabin before going to the club or immediately after arrival. If you arrive and check in 5-10 minutes before the activity you are less likely to be turned away and your child will have a chance to settle in before the activity starts.

If the club is at the staff/child ration such that they can't allow anyone in, they will suggest that you come back in 45 minutes or so. You can choose to just wait until someone checks out--then there is room for your child.

The kid activities are listed hourly in the navigator in a grid labelled children.

Since our cruise is during regular school sessions for most kids, it will likely have a lot of toddlers and elementary school kids. The older they get, the fewer travel when school is in session.

We always over pack no matter how many times I vow not to....

I'm enjoying the fact that I don't have to go outside today since it was snowing. Couldn't believe the number of accidents on the news this morning. Maybe I'll start packing this afternoon......

1st of all - CRUISE DOCS arrive TODAY via UPS!!!!:cool1:

2nd- finkelly - in the posted pic, my son has on the Disney snorkel, etc., for this cruise, my parents gave both boys snorkel set for Christmas. Target has the set for about $15 as best I remember. I will have to get them a vest at the Cay

3rd - we have an 80% chance of SNOW tonight in SC. My kids are "out of their minds!". Neither of my boys have ever seen snow - just fluries for about 5 minutes at best. The last good snow was when DS(8) was 1 - we have pictures, but he has no memory! I know that you guys who are looking at more snow that you can stand probably don't understand my excitement, but snow around here is so rare that kids get really pumped! Keep your fingers crossed for snow for the SC Byrd boys!!!!!:goodvibes

Here is my all time favorite shot of Castaway Cay.
Please welcome DH in first guest appearance! He is also the photographer. Don't you love how the palm trees hang over the shot like you are almost standing right there? This is my screensaver!:)

WOW that pic is BEAUTIFUL. Thanks for the tips on the club. Good to know. My kids are 10 and 8 and we are going with a family with a 5 year old. My daughter is very excited to do all the scheduled activities. Didn't want her disappointed. She would love to email other kids. I can't PM yet, so let me know how.

As far as packing, some of the things I wouldn't have thought of that people have mentioned is:

binoculars, clock (I found one with nature noises for $10 to help us sleep), over the door shoe holder(limited space in bathroom), magnets for door, extra hangers, 2 pillow cases for signatures, nightlight (we are in indoor stateroom), and bonine (for kids too). These were all great ideas just from the DIS. May seem like many of us are OCD, but these little things just make it all a little nicer.;)

Lastly, I know I complain about the snow alot, very sorry. Its just we have had too much. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. My kids are jealous of those who are swimming in the warm temps by april. Our summer is VERY short. I say, come visit the snow once and awhile but enjoy your warm weather! :beach:

Just got back from running errands (and the doctor since I managed to slice my finger open last night!) and found the cutest stuff at Target for my FE gifts....and no I'm not telling. :rotfl:

I finally found magnetic paper at Office Max so I can start making my door magnents now. I also have to dig out my summer clothes tonight and see what fits. :)

My TA emailed me and said I should have my docs tomorrow. :cheer2: I'm so excited...I can't wait for the 7th to get here!

I was wondering if anyone/everyone was doing magnets. Does anyone do the green DIS'er?

I took all our pictures to Staples and had them laminated for $1 a piece. it was actually $1 per 8.5x11 sheet. So I got 2 on some. Then I bought magnet stickers. A LOT cheaper than the magnet paper. Ended up costing about $10 total. Where the magnet paper was going to run over $20. hope that helps someone.

That's probably the Alien Green Mickey Head paint chips from Home Depot. People take them and cut out the Mickey head and put them on a magnet.

if anyone would like a name badge like this, I will create it with your family member's names and post it here.

I have printed 4 to a page on magnet paper and cut them out for past cruises.

Send me a PM with names, if you have a special saying for the bottom, please let me know and I will try to make it work.
