AGLET – We're Gonna Tour The World Together! Updated 11/9!!!

Yay! For the new job...hope it is going well :cool1::woohoo:

So sorry the steak and eggs were such a let down, it still seems like you had a pleasant morning! And the g/c is so cool..too funny about how excited the server was about it!

I figured it out. Totally my fault...I skipped a very important step in the 30-step process. Now when people call me, my phone plays Reflections of Earth. I am so excited! Too bad no one ever calls me!

Yay!!! I'm glad you got it figured out!! Hahaha it's okay, no one ever calls me either!

I am cracking up over the server's reaction!! That is hilarious

It was an awesome reaction, I have to say!! :thumbsup2

Thanks!!! :goodvibes

They definitely weren't bad, we still had a very nice breakfast! Thanks! He had such a fantastic reaction to it, it made our breakfast even better!

Where did this week go???? I'm sorry for the slight lapse in updates, this has just been one of those weeks where everything random and time-consuming happens (on top of starting the new job!), which then seriously impacts my Dis time. Boo.

Anyways. Back to Disney. (Wouldn't it be nice if going to Disney was as easy as typing that??)

When I last left you, we were at the Grand Floridian, post-breakfast. Now, I know that I have never quite sang the praises of Animal Kingdom - Wingnut nor I are really the biggest fans of that park. When we were planning the trip, Wingnut even asked why I was bothering to notate the EMH's for AK, why would we need those?

Somewhere along the line, he made the suggestion of "why don't we give Animal Kingdom one more shot?"

Alright. Back to Animal Kingdom we go!

We hopped a bus from the Grand Floridian and a few minutes later arrived at the park.

(I have no pictures from that process because, well, we were just riding on a bus. I have no pictures from the following story, because, well, pictures were pretty much the last thing on my mind at the moment...)

We starting walking towards the turnstyles, and I was continuing to revel in the the wonder that is cargo shorts, and how I didn't have to go through the bag check line. I dug through my pocket, found my card/money holder, and did not find my KTTK.

It wasn't in any of my pockets. Or in my card holder, despite frantically searching several times. :scared1:

Wingnut sighed. "Seriously?"

Instantly, I knew where that card was. Still in the pocket of my sweatshirt, back at the Polynesian. :headache:

I panicked, envisioning us needing to bus BACK to the Polynesian and then would it be worth it to go all the way BACK to Animal Kingdom at that point? We're already here! We're so close!!

I did the first thing I could think of, which was to frantically race towards the ticket sales window, hoping they could reissue my card. While I was darting through the cheerfully prepared-with-their-cards crowds, a woman stopped me.

"Excuse me?" she asked, "would you mind taking our picture?"

Ordinarily, of course, I take pictures of anyone who asks me. I even sometimes volunteer to take pictures of people if it looks like a family that is trying to get everyone in a group shot. But right now?? She picked the only person in the area practically running towards a knowledgeable CM with a beleaguered BF attempting to catch up to her.

:confused3

"No, I'm sorry, I need to do something right now." I continued powerwalking towards the ticket window, Wingnut trailing behind. I approached the CM behind the window, breathlessly explained my dilemma, and was pointed in the direction of Guest Services (which seemed much more promising to me than being pointed in the direction of the bus stops).

Guest Services was only a few more steps away, and a repeat of the explanation and around 30 seconds later, I was reissued a new card. Super-fast and super-easy, thank goodness!

I turned to Wingnut, who was standing next to me by that point.

"Well, that was easy!" I beamed at him.

I think I got another sigh in response.

Fully equipped to enter the park, we noticed the line for the turnstyles had rapidly grown in those brief moments. Did I mention we were in time for rope drop? We're prompt like that. :thumbsup2

So far, this AK day wasn't exactly starting off on the right foot. First the small card issue, and now we were both getting the sneaking feeling that we had again incorrectly chosen the least crowded park for the day.

"Should we stay?" Wingnut asked.

Oh, no. Not after me actually putting forth the effort to almost-run to enter the park are we turning around now! We decided to go ahead and proceed, hit the safari first, and then see what we could do after that before the crowds descended further.

Plan in place, the turnstyles soon opened, and we walked through the Oasis towards the next rope. Almost instantly, we were relieved at the huge difference in having to tour with the wheelchair and walking through the park. The inclines and the textured pavement were simply normal parts of the experience, rather than obstacles.

We joined the rest of the crowd at the Tree of Life, and I finally took a picture.

I consulted the map that I had grabbed (yes, I know, I still need maps at AK. This park confuses me more than our original adventure trying to find the TTC.) Safari towards the left. Towards the left we stood.

A few moments later, a CM materialized somewhere towards the front of the crowd (we couldn't actually see him), and started getting the crowd psyched to get into AK. He told the people going towards EE to stand towards the right and cheer, then the people going towards the Safari to stand towards the left and cheer. A few random people were going to other destinations, but they were pretty much left out of the bulk of the cheering excitement-building exercise.

Wingnut and I were pretty surprised at the size of the crowd surrounding us (and my hopes that absolutely no one else would cheer that they were Safari-bound were pretty quickly dashed. Hey, you can't blame a girl for trying.), so we devised the ever-original plan to walk as briskly and directly to the Safari as possible.

Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. And ESPECIALLY do not get distracted by the cute fluffy animals along the way.

Annnnnnnnnd GO!

We walked as briskly as we could (I am FAR from athletic) with approximately half of the crowd for what seemed like forever through various tree-lined walkways until we finally reached the Safari, and walked pretty much through most of the queue. We only had around a 5 minute wait from there (a nice opportunity to actually stand still that morning!), until we were boarding our Safari vehicle.

And then I started taking pictures again!

Hippo!

I like how it looks like he has an entire bodyguard group of birds.

Was this of one of the bridges from the Wild Africa Trek? I can't remember now.

Hey, I took more pictures of giraffes!

Good morning!

I love the elephants.

Don't go this way...

Mingos for Bella, of course!

Find the lion:

Blurry rhino:

In the end, the baby elephant was saved (I for one am happy this storyline is going by the wayside. It just seemed really unnecessary.), and we decided where to move on next.

I tend to really like AK... so I like all the animal stuff... EXCEPT the storyline of the safari. I too am glad they are doing away with it. Add in the replacement will involve zebras and I am REALLY happy.

Glad you were able to get your card replaced easy enough. What a pain that would have been to have to go back.

And...sorry... but :rotfl: that poor woman asking you to take the picture. What was she thinking. I am sure you looked frantic. I know when I have had to run to guest services i pretty much must look crazed...so why would she stop you of all people :confused3

So glad the crisis was adverted with your ticket and you didn't have to go all the way back to the Poly.

I just love Animal Kingdom. I hope you had a good experience there this trip.

:confused3

"No, I'm sorry, I need to do something right now."

So, did you ever see this lady later in the park? She was probably whispering and pointing and saying, "That's the mean lady who wouldn't take our picture!"

Nice shot. It's always neat to get to seem them up out of the water roaming around.

Mingos for Bella, of course!

I will be sure to show her these when I am with her next. :goodvibes

Wow! I was three updates behind??? :scared1: Sorry about that. Congratulations on the new job! :goodvibes That must be a huge relief.

Wasn't being so close to a great fireworks viewing location nice? I have to admit it was one of the perks of the Poly. We saw Tink, too, although we watched further down the beach and did not have the benefit of the music, which I know takes away from the total experience. I think we'll probably watch in twice while we're there next week!

BUT...I totally agree. Illuminations is better. :thumbsup2 I just want to live at EPCOT, really. Why did I ever think I wanted to stay anywhere other than the Boardwalk area? :rotfl:

Sorry breakfast at GFC wasn't everything you'd remembered it to be. That's not fun. Also about losing your KTWC. I'm glad Guest Services fixed it fast, though. I had to deal with them twice on this past trip (which is exactly two times more than any of my other trips) and they seem to generally be a great group of efficient, capable people.

Animal Kingdom is a tough park. Mark doesn't like it at all and Max seems to only really love the Boneyard (a playground in Dinoland that you probably wouldn't notice if you didn't have a kid). I'm looking forward to experiencing it as an adult next week and really look at things. Count me for another vote for someone who is so very happy they're changing up the storyline on the safari. That safari is simply amazing all on its own, and IMO, doesn't need a storyline at all. :goodvibes

No!!! My heart would have just sunk if I had forgotten my ticket. I kind of suspected that your KTTW card was having a nice sleep-in back in the hotel room -- glad you were able to just get a new one reissued without too much trouble.

The hippo and his bodyguards picture is great, but you know which ones I love the most -- those great giraffe shots! :lovestruc

Hope you end up enjoying your entire day at AK!

Oh... So Glad Guest Services was able to help you out!!

I would feel so bad telling someone I couldn't take their picture but I understand your reasoning! I probably wouldn't even have heard them ask as I whizzed right by!

Love your pics of the Safari!!

Oh no, I'm always so afraid of losing my park ticket! I somehow forget that they can just print you a new one!

I'm glad you gave AK another try! It's still not my favorite park, probably never will be, but it has it's good points! :thumbsup2

I'm glad everything worked with your ticket! I have left my ticket behind before (like when I lived in Jacksonville and got all the way to Orlando before I realized I left it at home :scared1:) but I've always had good luck with getting it replaced. I thought it was because I was an AP holder, but good to hear that regular tickets can easily be replaced as well! :thumbsup2

I'm also glad you're giving AK a second chance, its a favorite park of mine, and I'm always happy when other people begin to feel the AK love :lovestruc

So glad they could reissue your KTTW card! And I'm glad you guys decided to give AK another shot!

Can't wait to hear how the rest of the day went! (hopefully there was less running?!) I hope you enjoyed it! (the park, not the running!)

Not sure where I've been but I'm all caught up now. What a fun trip so far. I am a big Illuminations dork too... and will be searching for the ringtone as soon as I post this. :)

I know, I'm excited about the addition of the zebras too!! I love watching them run around!

Oh, I was SO happy it was easily replaced! I was so afraid we'd have to turn right back around!

It was just so strange that she literally picked the only frantic-looking couple in the ENTIRE crowd! I guess we looked energetic?

So glad the crisis was adverted with your ticket and you didn't have to go all the way back to the Poly.

I just love Animal Kingdom. I hope you had a good experience there this trip.

:lmao: No, I didn't see her again after that! (Thank goodness!)

Thanks!!

Yay!! Does she still call them mingos, or is that going the way of Pop Cenchy?

Wow! I was three updates behind??? :scared1: Sorry about that. Congratulations on the new job! :goodvibes That must be a huge relief.

It really was cool to see Wishes from the Poly! I was so surprised we were able to see Tinkerbell from there! You definitely should watch it closer to the music, it really makes the show even better!

Illuminations totally wins, hands down, though!

Guest Services really was so efficient and helpful! I was soooo thankful they were able to solve the problem so easily!

I agree about AK being a tough park. I've never even seen the Boneyard, but that does sound like a nice feature for the kids!

No!!! My heart would have just sunk if I had forgotten my ticket. I kind of suspected that your KTTW card was having a nice sleep-in back in the hotel room -- glad you were able to just get a new one reissued without too much trouble.

Hope you end up enjoying your entire day at AK!

Yup, apparently my KTTW isn't as early a riser as we were! I was so relieved to have a new one literally within seconds!

I love the giraffes too! I think I could watch them all day!

Oh... So Glad Guest Services was able to help you out!!

I would feel so bad telling someone I couldn't take their picture but I understand your reasoning! I probably wouldn't even have heard them ask as I whizzed right by!

Love your pics of the Safari!!

So was I!!!

I really did feel bad having to run by! But there was just no way I was stopping then!

Thanks!!

Oh no, I'm always so afraid of losing my park ticket! I somehow forget that they can just print you a new one!

I'm glad you gave AK another try! It's still not my favorite park, probably never will be, but it has it's good points! :thumbsup2

I forgot they were able to also! But that does make sense, I'm sure people forget them all the time.

It was definitely worth another shot!

I'm glad everything worked with your ticket! I have left my ticket behind before (like when I lived in Jacksonville and got all the way to Orlando before I realized I left it at home :scared1:) but I've always had good luck with getting it replaced. Oh no! I'm glad you were able to get your ticket replaced then too! They had no problem replacing my regular ticket, it was really quick!

I really was trying to feel the AK love, I promise!

So glad they could reissue your KTTW card! And I'm glad you guys decided to give AK another shot!

Can't wait to hear how the rest of the day went! (hopefully there was less running?!) I hope you enjoyed it! (the park, not the running!)

So was I!!! Yes, we decided it was definitely worth another try!

YES, thankfully, no more running!!

Not sure where I've been but I'm all caught up now. What a fun trip so far. I am a big Illuminations dork too... and will be searching for the ringtone as soon as I post this. :)

I'm not sure if an actual Illuminations ringtone exists (that'd be awesome if it did!), this was just a clip of the song I had on my Itunes from the Reflections of Earth soundtrack.

Yikes!! I'd be panicking too if I forgot my card! Glad they were able to hook you up in no time.
AK isn't my favourite park either, but I always enjoy my time there. I love taking my time and looking at all the animals.
Love your safari pictures!! Makes me want to be there right now. :goodvibes

I think AK always tends to look really jammed up in the morning, but it spreads out so nicely. Can't see your pics now, but aside from the card snafu, it sounds like you are off to a good start. I seriously hope you liked AK better this time! :goodvibes

I am sure that you were relieved when they were able to reissue your park pass without having to go allllll the way back to the Polynesian. Whew!

I agree with Mary Ellen, it always seems like the front of the Animal Kingdom is packed but then the crowds disperse pretty nicely.

Great shots of the animals on the safari. You were even able to get a picture of the lion when he was awake! That's quite a feat!

OMG, not having your KTTW card at a park entrance... that is a nightmare and a half. :scared1:

Wow, I'm glad it was so easy to get a new card! That's amazing. Disney MAGIC, really.

Love the safari pictures! The giraffes and elephants are the best part of the safari. :) But yeah, I'm very much okay with them doing away with the Little Red story. Do you remember when that was supposed to be happening, or has it already happened? I can't remember when it was supposed to happen!

That's pretty funny that you didn't take a picture of those people. I don't think that's ever happened where I've asked and people have refused. :rotfl: It's actually quite humorous! I'm sure that you and the poor family that never got their picture taken were very happy that you were able to get a new ticket reissued! :rotfl2:

AK isn't our favorite park either - we're never really all that excited to go to it but once we're there, we always enjoy it - especially Yak & Yeti.

Can't wait to hear more!
