We will start our trip the day before DD turns 10 - so she will be 9 according to admission tickets. We will not be using DDP, mostly because we can't stand the limited choices for her on the kids menu.

The idea is that we are going to do buffets. In the past two trips we have never had a problem with her taking items from the adult buffet even while paying the child price (and both times were on DDP).

Since we booked the trip with her as a 9-year-old, and we know she'll be wearing a button declaring her as 10, are we going to run into trouble when it comes time for the bill at buffets if she's selecting from the adult buffet?

Does anybody have some actual experience with this?

Yes, if she's wearing a button saying "I'm 10" I'm pretty sure they would expect her to pay the price for a 10 yr old.

I think technically Disney goes by the age of the child when the trip begins, but if she has a button declaring she's 10, then I would find it awkward to expect to pay the kids price.

There are no issues with children or adults eating from any portion of the buffet. DH and I have both gotten corn from the children's section at one restaurant and given DD and DS the prime rib and shrimp cocktail from the adult section.

All the food at the buffets are together. There is a little section that has things especially for kids (chicken fingers, mac & cheese, etc), but anybody can eat any of the food there; adults can eat from the kids choices if they want and the kids can eat from any of the other sections. If your DD is 9 when you check in, she's considered a child for the entire trip as far as Disney's concerned and will pay child prices :thumbsup2.

1 - the birthday buttons don't have ages on them
2 - your daughter will be considered nine for the entire length of your trip
3 - the buffets are all one big thing but the "comfort foods" like kids like are grouped together

You will pay the child's price for the buffets.

This also holds true for a child who is two at the start of the trip and turns three during the trip. The child is free for the entire trip.
