I bought this cute t-shirt from Old Navy - I've always loved Hello Kitty and thought it would be cute to wear on the weekends, or when I walked the track. One of my friends said it was too young for me - that no 41 year old should have cartoon characters on their chest?

What do you guys think?

I think I'm in trouble as I have a ton of shirts with characters on them!!!

I really wouldn't care what they say but I live in t-shirts/jeans.

I think it's cute and as long as you aren't showing stuff in public that you shouldn't be, then you should wear what makes you happy!

My DD (12.5) would not approve
She is quite adament about Mom clothes vs. Tween clothes and while I don't dress like an old lady, cartoon character t-shirts are something she would object to.
Let me preface this with I do not let her dictate what I wear but I also will ask her opinion as I think its important to her that I been seen as her Mom.

i would not deign to tell you what to wear. I figure at 41 you're old enough to know what works for you. But I would not be caught dead wearing a Tshirt with a cartoon figure on it. I'm 54 and while I'm not a fuddy-duddy, I don't want to dress like my DD18 (who incidently, also wouldn't be caught dead in that shirt.)

I wore a Mickey shirt yesterday (almost put on a Minnie today but went with tank instead)
I think that as long as it isn't too tight - go for it
I'll be 41 in July

I'm wearing a Mickey t-shirt as we speak, so maybe you shouldn't be asking me for advice. :goodvibes

ETA: I own three Mickey shirts, a pair of capri Mickey pajamas, one Oz shirt and one Perry the Platapus. :)
I'm 38.

I'm 19 and a lot of my belongings (wallet, keys, shirts, shoes, jewelry, cups) are plastered with Mickey Mouse or Disney princesses. At 19, a lot of people think they're too young for me.

I wouldn't call a character inappropriate, though. Lots of grown women like Hello Kitty just like lots of adults love Mickey Mouse.

I'm (gulp) 47 and wear Mickey, Tink, and Minnie.....oh - and grumpy too!

I think it really depends on the cartoon characters. Some, like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and are clearly adult cartoons. I wouldn't wear Hello Kitty out of the house. I certainly wouldn't expect to be taken seriously as an adult in it, like if I had to go up to the supermarket manager to complain about an employee. If I was patronized and treated like a little girl while wearing the shirt, I'd understand why. But then, I don't get the whole Hello Kitty for adults thing. :confused3

I think it's cute, and (as long as the necessary parts are covered) I believe you should wear what makes you happy!! If you feel good in the shirt, you will project those good feelings out into the world - even onto grumpy teenagers.

I think life is short and that if you want to be one with the Kitty, go for it.:thumbsup2

Seriously? That's pretty ridiculous. It's a character, just like Wonder Woman or Superman, as you mentioned.

Seeing as how Old Navy is selling them in the Women's dept., then they are selling them to women.

I really don't understand why people have so many problems with colours or styles of clothes, in terms of attaching gender or age appropriate labels, especially when it comes to characters. I wear lots of Disney character clothes in my role as a highschool teacher of at-risk students, and I can assure you that they take me very seriously, and have the highest respect for me as a teacher. Yet, I can show you some examples of some of my colleagues who are laughed at by students, despite wearing professional clothes, and that is because they are ignortant, rude and disprespectful.

I really don't understand this line of thinking...what you wear does not make a person, so treating someone a certain way for wearing this shirt speaks volumes about that person...

Tiger :confused3

While I have not worn character shirts in a few decades (I am 55), I wouldn't tell my friends or anyone else that they are too old to wear them if they want. It's just not my thing.

It is a t-shirt...what necessary parts could possibly not be covered?

For working out on the track it is fine, I would not wear it shopping at the mall or anything like that though. I do think grown women look silly trying to dress like 16 year olds. I think it makes them look older, not younger, try to dress like a teenager.

I am 42.

Captain Jack Sparrow (but not as a cartoon)
Mickey Mouse
Tinker Bell (jacket)
UP (as in the characters of)
Wall-E
Grumpy
Sleeping Beauty

The above are all characters I've worn on my person within the last 7 days.

I don't see a problem with Hello Kitty (other than it isn't Disney :rotfl: )

I didn't mean this shirt wouldn't cover things! I was just picturing the smart-alecky replies I might to get if I only said "wear whatever makes you happy" and was, uh, covering things myself.
