I just received Lanie and wanted to check it out before I wrap it for my daughters Birthday... Well the AG box is smashed on one edge... Do I contact AG and complain or just deal with it?!?! My first instinct is " who cares, it's a box!" but when I think about how much I just paid for A DOLL... I kinda want a decent box. WWYD?

Call and complain. Their customer service is really good, and even though it is just a box, part of their appeal is the presentation!

Are you planning on saving the box? If not, then why bother...

Do people save the boxes? I just assumed after paying $100 that you would save the box. I just can't imagine seeing this doll thrown in the toybox, but I could be wrong since this is our first doll, I don't know. I think part of it is presentation too, she has been asking for one for a year and she probably wouldn't notice the smashed spots, but you know in your head you have a certain way things go (i.e. Perfectly)

Ask for a new box. These dolls are collectible and worth more if you have the correct (and good condition) box. AG will send you a new box at no charge. Many people save the boxes for their dolls. I wouldn't store the doll in it between playtimes (unless she is rarely used). I would get a doll sized chair or bed (doesn't have to be real AG) as a spot for her doll to rest when not being played with. Our Bitty Twin lives in her crib or high chair when she isn't being played with.

My daughter had 5 AG dolls. Didn't save one box. Too much clutter.

I would request a new box. We have several dolls and have saved our boxes. Our oldest daughter currently has hers in their boxes in her cedar chest as she is heading to college. Our younger daughter has hers sitting on a shelf in her room. The newer ones are rarely played with but dusted regularly but her first is well loved and has a prominent place on her bed. I am not sure if the box provides better resale value but I would imagine it would and girl of the year dolls typically have a greater resale value because there are so few. If nothing else, it is a great place to store if it is not getting played with. I know that my older daughter plans to save hers for her own children someday.

DD has three dolls and I haven't saved any boxes. She loves them and plays with them. I could never imagine selling them. I will pack them up and save them for her kids when she's older. Just like DS Thomas the Trains up in the attic.

Whether you want to save the box or no, there's certainly something to be said for presentation (esp with the $$ as you said.) Call AG and they will send a new box.

May I also recommend, if you didn't already get one- a wire hair pick and a spray mister for water. (I got both at Walmart, don't need to get from AG!) If you didn't get a brush from AG, pick up a wire wig brush at Sally's Beauty Supply.

Lanie's hair has a little bit of a learning curve. DD would "mess it up" (her words, not harming the doll or anything) and freak out. A little water and the pick/brush got her back in the fluff of things. :)

We have ten dolls and I only saved one box, the Emily box since my dd's name is Emily.
