DH and I are going to WDW w/o kids in Dec. We would like to do some special things.

How is the Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Lounge?

Thanks in advance for all reviews, opinions and suggestions.

We had afternoon tea at the GF in April. It was delightful. You can find the menu on allearsnet.com. There were 4 of us, we each chose a different tea, and they were brought to us in beautiful teapots. We also all chose a different tea platter, from the sandwich one to the scone one to the kids plate. All were delicious. It is also a beautiful, quiet, and restful place to spend an afternoon. The food, ambiance, and service were all teriffic!

There are a couple threads on here about it. I actually started a thread a bout a week ago because my Mom and I had booked for the first time! We are very excited and can't wait! I'll see if I can find the thread. :)

:surfweb: I have wondered the same thing, I would love to do the tea with my daughter. I know she would have a great time. Do you just call and place a ADR???

yes, just call and make an ADR. I think the last seating of the day is around 4:40 in the afternoon. I have done the tea once with my mom and 3 sisters and my DH and I are going to do it in Sept. when we go. My mom, sisters and I had a blast. We all got the Grand Tea which was wonderful. We each got a glass of champagne with our tea which was so luxurious! :cloud9: Our tea sandwiches were great-think egg salad, chicken salad, pear and gorgonzola, etc. The scones were absolutely delicious!! And we all had either trifle or strawberries with fresh cream. Yumm-o! I think you will really enjoy it. There is also a nice view if you get a window seat. Have fun! :Pinkbounc

I really like the tea; I have been several times in the past. I had the Grand Tea once and the Gentlemen 's Tea (??)---I wanted to try the pates etc.
I am leaving next Friday (the 8th) for a two week solo trip and actually plan to go once each week. :teeth: It is so nice and relaxing and there is a variety so I can try something different each time.

Only about a week to go and I will be at WDW :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

can we use it as a lunch?we usually have lunch between 2:00-3:00 pm...so there wouldnt be time for afternoon tea...
And another question, is it crowded?should i make ADR?Thanks!

Venga,salu2.

We have the tea instead of lunch, no way to eat both (but we're not on the DDP, if that's what you mean). I would absolutely make ADRs -- the lounge is very small, and even months in advance I had to book 2 tables for 2 since they didn't have a table for 4 available. At check-in, I let them know and they said it was no problem to put us together. But it really does fill up fast, since it's small and it's a leisurely meal/snack. It's very elegant, but relaxing. When we were there last time there was a little girl with her parents and grandparents celebrating her first communion (she was all dressed up), so it's not just for people on vacation at WDW. I highly recommend it!

We were just there this past Monday. The meal portion is the same but they have added some new teas. I had the Vanilla Rooibus which was heavenly. We had the sandwiches and the scones. The trifle on MOnday was mixed berry and was out of this world.

donac,
did they happen to mention the new tea brand? Is it Teavana? I have a new addiction to Teavana tea and would love it if it is now served at the GF high tea!

thanks!

I just cancelled Ohanas and made reservations for Tea! My DS11 is less than thrilled about it but managed to wrangle a 1/2 day at Typhoon Lagoon out of me in exchange! :rolleyes1

I've got ADR's for my mother and I on 9/25 and we're really looking forward to it! :cheer2: It our arrival day and we thought it would be a great way to relax and decompress from the flight! :cloud9:

That is such a great idea! I wish we could do that, be we always arrive around 10pm. I'm sure you'll feel relaxed and refreshed after all that travelling!

My mom and I just made a reservation for the middle of December. It sounds wonderful. We can't wait, everything sounds so good. What is the best item on the menu for us to order.

We are going again in a couple of weeks - this time with my mom and my MIL! We have it scheduled for our down day in the middle of the week =)

We will be there on Oct. 20!! Woo hoo!! :woohoo: Just my Mom & I and we can't wait! It'll be our lunch and afternoon snack! :goodvibes

We have done the tea too...and LOVED it! The first time we went, only one person in our party of 7 wanted to do it, and it was her only "must do" meal that trip, so we agreed to go. I was DREADING it (I am so not a Frou-frou princess girl), the two then 10 year old boys in the party were trying to stage a revolt, the two teenage girls were "whatever", and the lone adult male was looking at it as a "life experience" (his words). Well, we went....

and EVERYONE LOVED IT!

The two boys even asked to go agin the following year when we mom's went back to WDW with them...yes I said two now 11 year old boys wanted to go back. They both LOVED the Mrs. Potts Tea (chocolate milk, sandwhiches and desserts!) Most of the adults had the Prince Edward Tea maybe...tea, tarts & scones, sandwhiches desserts and tea.

I agree with the other posters...definitely make an ADR as it is a small place and does get rather crowded some times.

Also, someone asked about makeing it lunch...we were so stuffed after this, that we had to cancel our dinner ADR that night...after the first visit.

How much do you get with the various items (tea sandwiches, pastries, etc.)? My mom wondered if it was unlimited...I said I was pretty sure it wasn't, but I couldn't recall what I'd read about quantity :thumbsup2

I'm gathering this would be a FUN place for three adult women!

TIA!

How much food you get depends on what you order. The grand tea package for $25 gives you the most courses, therefore the most food. Beware, the food with each course really isn't a lot, especially if you are used to buffets. They are mostly dainty finger foods. With this package you will probably be full but every other package comes with fewer courses and I don't know how filling it would be. It is certainly not all you can eat or like Olive Garden where you ask for more breadsticks when you run out, lol.

My best suggestion for anyone thinking of using this as a "meal" is to order a supplemental plate in addition to the tea package. For instance, the last time we went we got the grand tea and the british cheese plate. The cheese plate was delicious with a nice assortment. The two of us shared this in between our courses. We were quite full by the time it was over.

Basically the more you spend the more food you will get. If you are looking to be frugal I would suggest going as an in between meal sort of respite.
