Hi all,
Have just noticed this, and wondered if anyone has tried it?
It's dh's b'day when we are away in Aug, and thought it might be nice.
Any advise/comments would be great!
Thanks!

Jules

Ok I should point out this is always a must for our visits:
  • Although attire is park casual DBF felt uncomfortable in park clothes so he ended up putting on polo shirt and jeans instead
  • Try a cheese plate between you as the cheese is fantastic! If you like Stilton the stilton and port is also really good
  • Formosa Oolong is so good as is the Garden blend
  • I always have the Buckingham Palace which includes a pot of tea, Tea sandwiches (the pear and gorgonzola is wonderful) - note one is salmon so if you don't like it ask for it without, an onion tart, scones, and strawberries or pastries
  • DBF liked the Gentlemans platter which was a plate of pates (4 different ones I think) with fruit and bread, scones and strawberries or pastries I think plus the choice of tea
  • Ask for more water for your tea if you run out and want some more as they'll gladly provide it
  • Tell them its your DH birthday as they may do something special (I know women get a rose as a birthday treat but not sure on men)
  • Book in advance as the place is so small they don't actually have that many people served each day
  • If you don't like your tea say and they'll get you something else
  • If you don't like anything on the set menus say and they might be able to offer an alternative (got an extra onion tart instead of the Salmon sandwich last time and have had extra of one cheese on the cheese plate instead of one before)

I think that's probably the best advise I can give you! Hope you enjoy it

Its best too if you want a certain day / time, but we went at Easter and walked stright in as the place was empty.

We go every visit and it is really relaxing and enjoyable.

I would recommend booking and booking for 5.00 p.m. as there are less people as the tea finishes at 6.00 p.m.

Sarah,

Thankyou so much for that! You've made my mind up for me, so will definitely be booking! Thanks also for the info about the dress code! Will make sure dh looks the part, (and me!!) Will be nice to dress up a little for a change! We usually don't bother, and only take casual clothes with us!

We love Afternoon tea at the GF and do it most afternoons whilst staying here! It is very relaxing and the tea and food selection is wonderful:) I just love the Scones and the swan pastries they are nearly too good to eat:)

We have been three times now on each of our visits. We love it. Its a lovely relaxing break and a chance to wear something nice. The food is all gorgeous and worth every penny. My husband loved it too. We have a two year old on our next trip so we have to give it a miss sadly. Go for it you wont be disapointed!

Don;t let kids stop you, we have been taking DS since he was 14 months, now 3 1/2 and DD was there with us in Jan age 10 months. The staff are excellent with the kids :)

Thanks! Have already decided to try it:thumbsup2 One thing though, is it best to have a late breakfast (if we go at 4pm, as recommended), or an early lunch; and will we need a meal in the evening, or just a snack?
We will be taking our kids aswell, (ds17, dd's15,) and they seem to have hollow legs!!
