Afternoon tea at GF

DH & I are going to the afternoon tea on our upcoming trip. We have looked over the menu, and have decided to both order the Grand Tea. I noticed that you can either get pastries or trifles with this. If I order one, and DH gets the other, will there be enough to share a little of each? Also, the last afternoon tea that DH & I had was at an Inn on our 10th anniversary. That tea included all the things on the Grand Tea, and also included the strawberries with cream. DH thinks it won't be the same without the strawberries. If we order them a la carte, will we have a problem sharing one order? Thanks :)

There is definitely more than enough to share. One helping of trifle is big enough for two, especially by the time you get to the end of the meal. Your pastry selections include either two or three items (stuff like petit fours, dipped strawberries, custard swans). Personally I always go for the trifile because I don't think the pastries are really all that good while the trifile is to die for!

I've never ordered a serving of strawberries and cream, but I'm sure it would also be enough for both of you to share. Again, and I can't stress this enough, you will be eating a lot of food and drinking a lot of tea.

This is one of our favorite things to do at WDW.

Enjoy!!

Thanks for the info. :) I'm expecting to have more food than we can eat, but we would like to sample alot of things. Besides, we will have a DS back at the RV that will easily wipe out any left overs, if they don't mind allowing us to take the leftovers with us. Anyone ever tried taking their leftovers, or would that be too tacky?

you paid for it, why shouldn't you take leftovers if you want?

I just came back from a 7-night cruise on the Disney Magic and actually saw people taking leftovers after brunch and dinner. I admit to not understanding that because the food supply on the ship is nearly constant, and you can order free from room service 24/7. Of course, you never know if someone has a child waiting for samples, or maybe someone on an excursion who didn't make it to dinner on time.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it. The service at the GF is so good that they'll give you the leftovers and no one will even notice!

We just went to the Tea on Saturday, and the Strawberries & Cream is in the same size dish as the Trifle.

Another note, if your going to the Tea on the weekend, try to get the first sitting (2:00). We had a PS for 3:50 and didn't get in until 4:40. We were starving by the time we got in so we didn't have any leftovers.

But it was great & my kids loved the whole experience. We plan on doing it again in April, but I'm booking the first seating, so we don't have to wait as long.

So, this can be a good, full meal? I assumed that it would be either a snack or a light meal because of how dainty everything sounded. Would someone with a nut allergy have a problem eating here or are there enough selections that she will have an easy time picking something she can have? Also, I know there is probably no official 'dress code' but do people tend to dress nicer here?
Thanks!

Thanks all for the info. :)

oybolshoi,
I think you're right, and my DS will definitely agree. :p

MamaKate,
We booked a 2 o'clock PS, and now I'm glad we did. At the time, I was thinking that this would be a good time in between morning and evening activities with DS. He'll be glad to have the free time to play his PS2. As far as the portion size of the strawberries & cream, could you elaborate a little more? I don't know what the portion size for the trifle offering is. Could you please explain what we can expect for both of these? Also, do you know how many mini pastries there are? Thanks again! :)

Thanks for this post. We'll be there December 22 for the first time. Can't wait!!!!:Pinkbounc

The strawberry bowl is large. It must have had 8-10 large sized cut up strawberries in it. I could only eat 1/4 of what was served. My mom and daughter tried to help but we left a lot. They were delicious, just didn't have anymore room.

They had about five different offerings on the pastry tray and the kids were able to pick 2 each (with the Mrs. Pott's Tea). Adults may get more, but I chose the Strawberries & Cream instead.

At the time, they had Fruit Tarts, Eclairs, Swans, horns & chocolate strawberries. This were all mini versions. There may have been one more offering, but I can't remember. My son got the horn & swan. My daughter got the fruit tart & eclair. The swan was good, but at the time, they just changed to the lavender moose filling instead of the strawberry moose or apricot moose. It was still good, but different & I was surprised my son ate it.

Hope this helps!
Katie
