I know my mum would love to do this but we really wouldn't, I'd like to suprise her with something and was thinking of booking an ADR for her. Has anyone ever done this alone? What is it like?

I've done the tea by myself twice and I really enjoyed it. I love doing the tea with my family and would not miss it just because I was travelling solo. Both time the waitresses were very nice, and I felt at ease and just enjoyed the experience.

I feel the Tea would be the perfect place to dine alone! Tell her to be sure and order the trifle!

I absolutely love having tea at the GF. That being said, if any of my children planned this for me -- and I had to go alone-- I would hate it. It is truly a shame that you know your mother would enjoy this and don't want to be with her to share it. It's only an hour, not an entire week.

i've done the GF tea alone and have loved it! especially enjoy the non-rushed service, the elegant settings, the delicious food - had the chamomile tea with the sandwiches, scones & devonshire cream (yum!), and the pastries - even had my DH join me once (what a good sport he was!) - but much prefer going alone - me, i liked the slow, quiet, beautiful atmosphere and didn't feel at all uncomfortable by myself - of course, if my sister would ever join me on a WDW trip, i know she'd ejoy it too!

:rolleyes1 Do you really need an ADR for the tea?

Both times I was there, yes, you did, the tea room was totally full. It was a very relaxing experience in a beautiful setting, perfect for a light lunch.

My girlfriend and I went to the tea last October (girls only trip) and it was great. I think you mother would really enjoy it, even if she is by herself. It's really relaxing and the food is good. Maybe you should think about joining her even though I realize you said it wasn't for you. If you've never tried it, you might end up having a really nice time with you mother. Also, eeyorgirl, we had an ADR at 2:00 and it was starting to get filled up while we were there. I think it's best to get an ADR, so you're not disappointed if you decide to go and there are no tables. Have a great trip!!!

Sometimes it's a nice change of pace on a family vacation to have some alone time and this is the perfect spot! I think going alone would be a wonderful respite during the middle of a family vacation of 24/7 togetherness. If this is something you know she would enjoy, it's a very thoughtful gesture on your part... not something to feel guilty about if you don't choose to join her. Grandmothers enjoy some reflection time too! ~Ev :)

I love the tea and wouldn't mind going alone but it would much nicer to have someone with me. I would go w/ your mom if I were you. It's only an hour and very nice. I would give anything to take my mom to the tea again, why don't you just give it a try? The trifle is amazing!

Thanks for your responses guys :)

One of the main reasons for this is that me and OH will be having an afternoon/evening off by ourselves to have a quiet meal alone together. Thing is I feel guilty about leaving mum, she's said she won't want to be with us all the time as she likes her alone time but I still feel like I'm saying "this is our time and we don't want you there" if you know what I mean? I want to do something nice for her so she has something special that day too and I'm struggling for ideas.
