After you book your resort, do you watch the page for new deals and cheaper prices?

Well we booked a few days ago and I have been obsessively watching the hotel page for our trip at the end of October. Here we have it this morning and suddenly the same hotel is now $100 cheaper for the same room type and days.

So how does this now work, do I call and say the rate is cheaper so give me a discount please, or do I just book the new room rate and once it's confirmed cancel the old one? I am still in my free cancellation window period so whatever works I'll do, but heck, I dont mind the extra work to save a bunch of cash.

Depends on where you booked it? I have cancelled and rebooked via Orbitz but there were no cancellation fees so check on that. If you made it with a TA or through Disney, call and have them apply the discount.

Only if I book at rack rate. Or if I book GP and then wait on AP rate.
I've never seen a 2nd promo of the same category come out for a date that was cheaper than an existing promo for the same dates. Not room only at least.
Not if it's comparing GP to GP, or AP to AP. Once a promo for a date is out, it's the promo for that date. At least in my experience. No reason to watch for a lower rate on those dates at that resort.

Sounds like in your case maybe a room became available for 1 night at the promo rate that wasn't there before. I have seen that before, if you look at the night by night breakdown you can often see what night changes. Maybe when you first booked 1 of those nights was rack rate and now it's not. They are sneaky with that sometimes now, I only caught it happening in the past year or so. Before, you'd get the rate for the entire stay but not always now. So yeah, if you got 1 night at full price when you first book it is worth checking for a discount on the rest of the nights

I would absolutely call. I use Dreams Unlmtd Travel for my trips and they continue to "watch" for discounts after they book your trip. If they find something, they will get it for you....sometimes savings you a few hundred dollars. I do the checking when it comes to my airfare and rental car. I usually try to book with Jetblue from NYC and when I book, I continue to look daily [sometimes multiple times] and if my flights go down in rate, I call them and they'll give you a credit for future purchases. Rental cars are notorious for changing their rates alot....so I kind of do the same thing with them. Take care of this ASAP! Good luck to ya'!

I booked once using a FL Resident rate because the Passholder rate was unavailable. Checking on my reservation shortly before the trip, I saw the Passholder rate was available. It let me switch it to the Passholder rate, though I'm not sure if I ever got the difference back or not (it was only a few dollars).

[EDIT] Looks like I did get $6.46 back about 2 weeks later.

I rarely book through Disney direct but I do book through Orbitz and often stay at Swan/Dolphin and book through them. I have an upcoming trip In Sept. at Dolphin and have changed my rate 3 times so far, it was enough of a savings the first time that I added an extra night on the end for about $100 more, the last savings was enough that I added an extra night on the beginning at Pop through Disney with an AP rate that even adding those two extra nights, I only spent $50 more total. I've done it with Orbitz when I've found a better rate later with Disney that was good enough that even applying the $25 cancellation fee that Orbitz charges on certain resorts I've saved money.

I just want to confirm what jsrj21 wrote about Dreams Unlimited. We have used them for a very long time for both our DCL and WDW vacations. And we have had the TA get back to us on the deals that had come out after we have booked our trip. We typically book our trips well in advance and I don't want to have to always jump back onto the computer looking for new deals as Disney releases them.

Lately our reservations have been using a TA exclusive deal and I have yet to see their discount be beat and I know WDW discounts will not beat them.

Same here for the most part, but actually the AP rate beat out the TA deal by a little bit at AKL this past June. I was shocked!
True, I have noticed that sometimes there will be one deluxe resort price that looks out of line, I remember one time WL was higher then POLY.

So far, I usually just modify my reservation using the MDE website, app did not work. I did this with my January 2017 trip to add a discount and then switched resorts. Then I did have to call once I decided I was going to upgrade to an AP. For my June trip, I booked my resort at the base price, then added the general discount once it came out, finally once the AP discount came out, I again modified. I never had to call to make all of the changes for my June trip.

Once, I book, I usually just check every couple of weeks, unless I know that a discount should be coming out soon. For my January 2018 trip, my cousin booked the room, so I figure around October, we will both start watching for discounts so we can see what we can save.

Try modifying your reservation online to get the discount. If that doesn't work, call and let the CM know it appears your reservation now qualifies for a discount. If it does, they will adjust it for you.

No - my TA does that for me.

I've been using the same TA for 10 years and she's always come through for us when a discount drops.

We booked through the Disney.com website directly. We had a 20% off rate for the fall and then I saw the price a bunch cheaper for the same room without the discount, so maybe I booked something special the first time?

We cancelled the first room after booking the second, saved a few hundred bucks and have the same itinerary. Coranado Springs.
