After Hours Rental Car Return

In May, DW and I are spending a few days at BWV. We had hoped to rent a car from Alamo/National on our arrival day, and then drop it off at the return desk at the Dolphin that same evening. Thus we have the convenience of a car, without paying for a handful of days we won't really use.

It seems that the desk at the Dolphin closes at 4pm. Can we still return the car later and just drop the keys in a box without being charged extra?

People have been charged an extra day in general from time to time when using drop boxes. Get an official word from the Orlando Airport National or Alamo agency, and Alamo could be different from National.

Incidentally for Alamo and National you can drop of the car at the main WDW onsite facility which is half a mile after exiting the Magic Kingdom. Get a resort parking permit, take it with you and just drive to the MK but bear right just after the toll booth and then take the next possible left at a light. (I'm not sure of a shortcut bujt if you are caught at the MK tollbooth without a permit, ask the toll taker for directions to the National Car rental facility, thank him, and drive on.)
