After hours - $149 for EMH?

According to Kenny the Pirate today, advance sales of the $149 EMH scam-strava-ganza were poor and, as a result, "free" tickets are being offered to DVC members. As Kenny asked, if you were paying $149, and then found out others were not having to pay $149, how would you feel?
I would be ok with it since it is just DVC members. They deserve some surprise perks sometimes

I know we will continue to go to Disney but I promise you, we will not be paying for EMH. It will be very disappointing if the EMH goes away but this will not stop us from going.

Agreed. We'll go, but there'll be a sense of bitterness about the whole thing, and it will be hard for us to keep that from poisoning the rest of our trip.

Surely it's not going to stop at "just" DVC members, though -- same as it's not going to stop at "just" a few nights. Park hours are being truncated, and I don't mean just EMH; I spreadsheet all our WDW trips, and the park closing hours are noticeably earlier than this time last year. I think the writing's pretty clearly on the wall.

But those extra hours have always been just that- extra. They're extended beyond normal hours bc of crowd levels usually..and they still might be extended in June.
I've rarely been to Disney during the summer..but I do know that winter/holiday prices are mostly higher priced with shorter park hours. So a summer time closing at 10pm as opposed to midnight a few nights per week is not "paying more for less".

If it were just "extra" magic hours, perhaps. But regular park hours are being reduced. The less-coffee-in-a-can-at-the-same-price analogy is a good one.

It's an OPTION. That's what people aren't grasping.. No one is forcing you to do it. Also- it's not at all like airlines.. You have to take luggage when traveling (mostly anyway), therefore we pay the luggage fees. Again, Disney is not making you pay the $149 if you don't want to.

Close, but not really. If core hours are being reduced, in order to make this $149 scam-strava-ganza possible, that makes it no longer an option. A generation from now, no one will remember, and upcharging this and upcharging that, when once they were included in the price, will be the new normal -- the status quo. But for now, it is happening now, and people are upset now. Sometimes I do not understand Disney Apologist-ism at all.

Returning to add that I agree with that, Kimberly. DVC people pay so much, they definitely deserve to be getting perks. I think I read once that park admission was included in the price...? That perk being removed must have caused an epic outcry, and I don't think I'd have blamed them.

How doesn't that make it an option? You still have the option to pay for it or not. Obviously it didn't sell well which is causing them to give it away for free.

Not quite true...

When DVC was starting up and needed footing...they provided lots of incentives to join. They gave hoppers...I think even annuals early...as incentives...

They also would periodically give more tickets as more incentives to advertise the product and get down there.
Those went away long ago.

I don't have a problem with that. But denying Specifically the ticket perks to resale customers is wrong IMHO. If you collect the dues, and you're not give any of the original money from the contract back...the discounts should be universal...
....which is where a lot of the potential resale buyers are gonna start going.

Agree. To say "it's just an OPTION" is the standard excuse making for this billion dollar conglomerate that is way too common.

Reducing hours to charge 1.5x the daily rate for 3 hours is an embarassing move. It's says more "walmart" than Disney. Just a low rent move. And honestly a reflection of bad management/lack of common sense in the current climate. People have begun to realize that they are getting hammered with price hikes in Orlando to send the money somewhere else. And once that starts...they are not gonna like the responses.

I said it last year when they added the villains desert party during the Halloween party last year, these extras are a cheap and LAZY way for Disney to increase their revenue.

It is...it was...and will continue to be.

They are internally trying to make Staggs the fall guy. But it obviously came from above and was the brainchild of the hoards of bad Whartons and accountants that have plagued Disney since the late 90's under Eisner.

It is the first of these events.

Basing things off of what I'm seeing on Twitter the longest waits are for the "free" ice cream. Mine train is under 30 minute wait everything else is pretty much 10 minutes to a walk on. Looks like very low amount of people at this.

Some things never changed. At one time Crysler was one of the best built cars....until the bean counters (accountants) knickled and dimed it to ruin.

Allow me to ramble rant stream of thought. I want to see quality go up as prices go up. So for each price increase:
  • The line waits should be less.
  • The parks should get cleaner and cleaner.
  • The cast members get more hours and pay increases.
  • There should be shorter lines to get food and more seating.
  • There should be short waits and few stops for Magical Express as the resort rates increase.
  • There should be a bundle rate at a discount that includes all of the add-ons(extra magic, party at night, party over here ,party over there) so that the vacation can feel more all-inclusive.
  • Fast Pass needs to take less thought. Like how Universal does it.

"It says 10 minutes (trust me) for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train #DisneyAfterHours"

Just left. There was no wait for any ride. Often the castmates asked if you wanted to stay and go again vs walking back through the queue. You got to pick any "row" or seat you wanted. It seemed like no one was there! It was awesome. I would pay the fee for this experience again. The only thing I would do differently is take a break. I've been in the parks since 11:30 am and I'm tired......just not as young as I used to be....

7 dwarfs was walk on at 11:30 when I rode it. Everything else was all night, too. I had a whole rocket to myself on Space mountain and I was the only rider on Astroorbiter at 1:15. I rode BTMRR 4 times without getting off. I don't know how many tickets it was, but the park seemed really empty
