After hours - $149 for EMH?

That's not true. A large part of the Park revenue comes from ancillary sales from people who are in the park as opposed to just ticket sales. Staying open longer does result in more revenue.

How well that trades against the additional costs we can't say.

Point taken-I meant ticket sales.

But yes-look at EPCOT after hours.

If it's selling poorly they won't extend past this initial batch of days. Disney are brutal about chopping that sort of stuff.

Maybe, maybe not-it could be good intel for future expansion.

1. In many cases they aren't. Info has shown that park hours are shorter right now than in past years, so they aren't "taking a night that closes at 10pm" so much as they are creating one that would've been open until 11 or 12.

There would be revenue and perhaps good will (which could/should lead to more revenue down the line) keeping the parks open later and getting the ancillary spending during those hours instead of the $149,000 from the Extra Payment. As much? Dunno, but I know when people start getting upset and talking about Disney greed, that will eventually hit revenue b/c those people won't be inclined to pay to go back or for the little tchotchke. Not all revenue is good in the long-term. The $149k could probably bring too much bad press/hurt feelings that long term people start looking at Disney as not so magical. No one takes the longview on things anymore and that's hurting all of us.

Looking at last April and May anway, but closing at 10PM instead of hurting feelings is fine with me as well.

Not any more it isn't, no. But it was this time last year.
But it is not for the entire year. Only certain times when crowds are higher. And only certain nights. When we were there over Labor Day I think it was only 1 night until midnight...out of 8 nights. And another midnight ending EMH which was the only EMH we used. I don't think this will effect park hours every night of the week.
It is the first of these events.

Basing things off of what I'm seeing on Twitter the longest waits are for the "free" ice cream. Mine train is under 30 minute wait everything else is pretty much 10 minutes to a walk on. Looks like very low amount of people at this.
This is exactly why I see the value in it and hope they keep it around in case we end up traveling during summer. I'm hoping it's offered for our trip in December! But I doubt it with the party nights.

If I'm paying $149, Snow White herself better be checking my seat belt and the wait for mine train better be measured in seconds.
But you have to look at it like this-

It's $150 vs. $80-$100 for more efficient use of park..and lower crowds at park...and probably A LOT less strollers!!!

I'm talking about the 5 night or less travelers. If you're longer then yes, it would be a larger difference. Still worth it to cut back one day of reg tickets and replace with this,...in my opinion. So of course not everyone will feel same as I do.

I think if it was more than 3 hours then yes I would agree it's worth it but that's just me.

But you get in the park @ 7pm right? So to me is still worth it. But like I said, that's just me..although I do think that Disney knows there are a lot of people who would be willing to pay more for a lower crowd experience.

It is NON-refundable. Not only are you paying $30-$50 MORE than a 1 day ticket for less hours (but free ice cream and soda - yeah), you are taking the risk that the evening event in hot and humid Florida (with storms every night in certain seasons) won't be a washout. If it is, you get screwed. Disney offers extra parades, characters, food (trick or treating), fireworks and more hours with the same "limited" attendance at their fall and winter parties at (until this year) LESS than the 1 day gate price b/c they know you are taking all the risk of getting screwed. There is no way, especially since they don't seem to want to sell day of tickets (thus, why it was "sold out" when it wasn't), it would be worth taking on this event's risk vs a regular one day ticket unless you're a die hard or a ride lover.

Absolutely...100%

And the key here is they are "creating the early close"

Look at the wait times on the app...easy enough...
IF (and they are) the standby wait times for small word, Peter Pan, and space mountain are 30+, 50+, and 120+ repsectfully...then that level of crowd justifies a 11-12 close...

How do you know?
FASTPASS!!! as in the 1998 "what's those funny little ATMs?" Version. Fastpass is built on NUMBERS. To predict, allocate, and staff. That was the operational point of it.

Until this boom ends...Magic kingdom should close before 11 unless the lowest weeks of the year and MGM 10. Period. And yes - that means more food and more MERCHANDISE sold. Merchandise is the point.

And if it isn't selling...get better merchandise. People are always "in the mood to buy" when they're happy. Just has to not be Walmart crap.

Yeah I'm apprehensive about buying a Halloween Party ticket because it seems like a pretty big risk weather-wise. I don't mind dealing with weather over the course of a regular day, we could always go back another time or wait it out. Eating the cost of 2 or 3 tickets would be a bit much for me personally. Of course if they raise the prices much higher than last year's it won't be too much of a decision for me to make.

You take the same risk with any vacation. It rained every single day of our Disney trip. Some days storms. We spent a week in KW after our WDW portion and it rained and stormed there. Our trip to Dry Tortugas was cancelled.(that was refunded). I had rented a jet ski but then passed after an afternoon storm (non refundable). It started raining on our sunset cruise..then got heavy and it was cut short (non refundable) We went to the beach, paid to get in the park, rented chairs/umbrella/snorkel gear/floats, and within 10 minutes after getting in the water a water spout came followed by another thunderstorm.(non refundable)..I think we used our resort pool beach maybe twice for less than an hour each. Pretty much every single reason that I took my son to Key West..and paid a premium for the resort we stayed in...was because of all those activities.

What we did do? Put on our rain parkas and made the best of it.

Most rides will still be open. And what I liked about rainy days? Less crowds!

Are they advertising that? Is it on the website?

Because if the answer is "no" then it isn't a valid defense in court. You make policy for the widest range of consumers...not the disboards and wdwmagic bloggers.

Except we're only talking Disney 1 day tickets at gate price (b/c this event is $30-$50 HIGHER than that cost). If it's gonna rain all day, you don't HAVE to buy a 1 day gate price ticket and you can enjoy an Orlando indoor attraction and are out ZERO. Everyone talks about how this isn't a bad deal compared to that 1 day ticket (b/c it gets to be a worse with every other ticket) - I'm pointing out it's still terrible for the consumer.

I don't think these changes are geared for the disboard and wdw blogger crowd. I only came to this site last August I think... and I have been going to WDW since my 1st birthday. I think it's for adult travelers, short stay onsite guests, offsite guests who do wdw/universal/seaworld, people who have kids older than pre school age who want to maximize park time. If you stay 7-10 nights with a family of 4-5, then no- this probably isn't the best option for you. But there are a lot of people who stay a shorter time, have smaller families-who would love this option.

The daytime is whatever, I am fine with that. A special event where I paid extra on top of it, I would be a little more disappointed. Especially if a downpour cancelled or really delayed special events.

For $149.00 I can go to one of the hotel buffets and pat less for two Also can have Pluto come over and pat me on the head.

My point is they are selling "after hours magic"...which is a sales pitch for AFTER HOURS.

Even though you can get in at 4...that isn't what they are selling and the majority of consumers will never know...

And why? Because they can't. Because people may make the LOGICAL choice and not pay for the day ticket and just go in at 4...which is bad for Joe rohde, the management In Bristol, Ct, the owner of Bob Igers tanning parlor, and the Chinese central bank.
