After hours - $149 for EMH?

Yet wondering if it will be packed.
Yeah that's what I was wondering. When rteez first put the link out there (a couple pages back on this thread) for what was on Disney's website my thought was it could go both ways...maybe it's crowded because people saw the info about it and leaped at the idea and maybe it's not crowded because people balked at paying that high price or maybe it's not crowded because they released the dates late in the game similar to how people plan their dates around the already existing parties.

It's more that I think if they sell so few tickets the park is "empty" (which seems to be the only draw for this event right now) then they'd consider it a failure and not do them any more.

At this point I'm pretty much convinced that if Disney announced a $1,000 ticket to stand in a circle around Walt's statue then people would be lining up to purchase it. P T Barnum is still right.
Ummm, if you are referring to the "sucker born every minute" quote, I am sure you know that P.T Barnum never said that.

I always go between Christmas and New Years. The parks say open to 2 or 3 am so it doesn't affect me

Disney is slowly trying to turn us away from wanting to come back. I know it would never happen but it would be great if people just stop going to WDW and go over to Univ. Stud. or somewhere else. I would love to see their faces. I like Disney but it isn't the end all be all destination for vacations IMO.

Didn't want to resurrect an old thread, but knew I posted the below not that long ago. Turns out, it was roughly 9 months ago in a thread about rumors of evening EMH going away (still remains to be seen if that happens).

If eliminating EMH paved the way for the return of the old E-Ride nights ...than I support it.

For anyone unfamiliar with the old E-Ride nights (I believe they had them from around 1997-2004), it was sort of like a hard ticket party. However, it was only open to WDW resort guests (similar to EMH) who had multi-day tickets. You paid $10 (later raised to $12) per person and got to stay in the MK for a few hours after closing. There was a limit on the tickets sold, and I'm sure it was much lower then the amount of tickets they sell for the Hallowen & Christams parties - some reports said the limit was 5,000. They didn't have every ride open (Adventureland and Fantasyland rides were usually not open), but most of the remaining headliners were open. Pretty much all of Tomorrowland & Fronteirland were open. We would ride each of the 3 mountains, Haunted Mansion, and others multiple times in a row without ever getting off.

All that said, I believe if they did bring back the E-ride nights it would probably be very different than it was originally. They'll probably charge $40-$50. The limit on tickets sold would probably be 20,000 (or more), and the number of attractions open would be even fewer.

Wow, was I off! I expected they would get piggish with it...just not that piggish.

I'd like to see a reduction in my room rate per night if EMH are every removed. However, I'm sure disney would find a way to increase my room mate, tack a price on to EMH, and then try to market it to me that somehow its a great savings and a great experience.

Talking about everyone going into panic mode about this. As of right now they have not said this will replace or eliminate EMH, the dates are deconflicted and it is only for the Magic Kingdom. I'm not sure why this added option is riling everyone up as it wont affect the experience that everyone else is enjoying (technically it may help by making the parks less crowded during the day and put more money in Disney's pockets which may reduce the need to up prices elsewhere... in theory)

For those who say it is a rip off I would say that its not as bad a deal as you think. Busch Gardens offers an add on to their park tickets (which are about $80.00 base) which costs $45.00 bringing the total ticket price to $125.00. The add on allows the person to cut to the head of the line once for every ride. There are still the regular crowds to deal with for everything else i.e. bathrooms, food, general walking space and again its only good for each ride one time. I have used this pass twice and it is absolutely worth it and made our park experience infinitely better. It also allowed us to accomplish a days worth of rides in a much shorter time span. Now compare this what Disney is offering where you can ride all the rides as much as you want, minimal crowds and its at night which is unique and much more comfy during most of the year then the day. Also consider that a normal day pass already costs over a 100 its really not that much more money. Now this is assuming they make the number of tickets available pretty limited but I do think that will be the case both because the demand wont be too high for them and they need to make it worth it for the guests. Am I saying that I would do it... not yet but someday I could see myself considering it if things go the right way hehe.

I spend a lot of money when we go to DW and I don't really balk at prices. Tickets going up a few bucks to me is basically irrelevant, they're one of the cheapest parts of the trip. I get the dining plan because it's easy, I don't care if it is cost effective or not and it's not really worth my time to try and figure it out. We've gone to the Christmas Party several times and everybody enjoys it. We mostly only stay at the deluxe resorts because I don't really like the cheaper ones.

That said, there is absolutely 0% chance I'll pay $150 just to stay a little later. Granted, we always go during the slower times or at least most of our trip will be during a slower time but I still don't think I would pay it. I take 10 people and it's not worth $1500. Even with 4 people it's not worth $600. I don't think this will go over very well. I spend a lot of money on all kinds of stupid stuff but if I'm like, "Whoa, that's too expensive", then the whole vast majority of people are going to agree. Cut the price in half and it's in the ballpark but $150 is way too much.

I agree with the previous poster that a lot of people here are in panic mode and getting angry over assumptions that may never happen. Time will tell.

They had a discussion on the dis podcast about this and Pete pretty much nailed my thoughts on it.

I avoid morning EMH parks, but I find evening EMH always has a guest falloff that make them worthwhile.
I would hate to see this be the end of EMH.

The price is ridiculous. Of course people will pay it, and then the party prices will skyrocket.

If only we could find a way to say no...
Agreed. We would go to a different park and then come back for EMH

I think a lot of us have seen the money grab the last few years and so anything is believable.

The scary thing is it's more than the cost of getting into the park on a single day ticket.

Im going to have to see what actual attendance levels look like but I think in a one day pass vs this situation I'd take the evening pass. I'm betting in terms of what I could get done this would give me a better value. I can't see that ever happening though unless a work event sent me when my AP expired.

I agree with a whole lot of what you are saying and I'm also in the camp of those who will not hand over $150 for an event like this. Just look at events like the Wishes Dessert Party, Illuminations Dessert Party and Symphony in the Stars Dessert Party, people are more than happy to spend $50-$70 for a few less than great dessert, perhaps a drink or two of cheap champagne, and a roped off area to watch a few fireworks. I'm sure there will be flocks of minions ready to pay $150 to spend 3 hours in the MK after it closes to ride 7DMT several times, eat a few Mickey frozen treats and drink a few hot chocolates or a bottle of water and think it's a great value...

I'm convinced WDW could sell bags of mouse pellets for just about any price and claim they are from Mickey Mouse and there would be droves lining up to buy Mickeys droppings and call it a great value. But until people speak up with their purses and wallets Disney will keep on doing things like this. I support the idea of capitalism and I don't fault Disney. They are in business to make money and as long as they are doing that they will keep on cutting things back and raising prices and continue to add more and more hard ticket events since it appears there is no end to what people will spend when it is mixed in with a little pixie dust.

If anyone is in panic mode it's Disney.

They're not thinking this through imho. If the $150 for 3 hours upsell is seen as good value then how do they think their $105 ticket for 10 hours will be perceived? It's like saying, ok, we know that you had a lousy time all day struggling with crowds and dealing with FP+ on our flaky wifi. But we want to make it up to you. We really, really do. Just give us another $150 per head and this time it'll be great.

It's one thing to offer a range of products at different prices and perceived values ... but I doubt if they will succeed in convincing people that BOTH the ticket options are great value, different strokes for different folks. They might leave people feeling that (a) is somewhat overpriced and a bad value given the crowds and the lines, and (b) is vastly overpriced.

It's odd that Disney reacts to the popularity of cruise ships by building more boats, but when their theme parks are full (and extremely profitable) their main reaction is, don't build more ... squeeze more.

The only way that cruise ship analogy works is if they decide to build a replica Magic Kingdom.

EMH used to be an extra cost. $10 I think (for reference, the 1 park ticket was about $42 for an adult, so about 1/4 of the full day price). It was well worth it. I could definitely see them going back to having it as an add-on. Not a $150 add-on, but an add-on.
