After hours - $149 for EMH?

If it was an add-on to an existing park ticket, I'd pay maybe $35.

For that price of course-and it will be packed. So they have to limit the tickets for sure, or just leave it packed

So if they limit the tickets I guess at 60 days onsite can add that. Probably start with deluxe since that alone will probably fill it. Then at 50 days mods, 40 days value, 30 days offsite.

I have a good friend that's an AP holder here in NC, he visits quite often. He's upset with all the price increases and addons as well, when i spoke to him yesterday he still said "i'm not happy, but I'm still going."

Until people stop going, nothing is going to change.

I'm not particularly upset, just can't find the value in this event. Hence, won't be buying tickets if it's offered during my next trip.

I remember, back in the mid 90's, when EMH for resort guests used to be that every single park opened an hour earlier for guest staying on Disney property. There were no EMH at night but having the extra morning hour at every park prevented what we're experiencing right now where most guest flock to that single park for rope drope and chaos follows (looking at you weekend mornings at MK). I'd be nice for Disney to maybe re-visit this idea if they come up with more hard tickets events for night EMH. The only caveat is that back then, there were significantly less rooms on property; therefore, less guest to accommodate for EMH in the parks.

I'm not saying what they should or shouldn't charge - you asked me what I personally would pay and that's what it is.

Apologies, I just meant it will be packed and that gets actually worse press/feedback like the parties.

Exactly, many/most don't "addon" desert parties, dining plan or fishing Bay Lake either.

That is true. But - not to keep beating this horse - fishing on Bay Lake is a unique experience. There seems to be very little difference in the experience of these night events and normal daytime MK. Anyway, I'm interested to see how these events sell, what attendance is capped at, etc.

I think asking how much you would pay is tough to say because there are a lot of factors we don't know. For example, it sounds like there are no real add ons as far as characters. We also don't know what the max crowd levels would be. But to me, at the holiday parties you get a special parade, fireworks, and special characters. It sounds like you get none of that here, so I think it should be well south of one of those events (if we are looking for fair value). If you are looking at just getting sheer money out of it, people do ridiculous things, chances are people will be going, so the price will be fine (though I'd be surprised at sell outs unless they take like a third of the crowds for the holiday parties).

Does appear completely additional hours at least compared to last May and EMH are different nights so no overlap?

Last May MK was closed by midnight all month until the 30th I believe, so 2AM is new.

Now the release stated that it starts at 11 (I would assume that means they are closing at 11). Last year, did they close every night at midnight in May, or just some of them? That hour wouldn't make a bit of difference to us, but I'm just curious.

Important call-out from the blog post:

[NOTE: Disney Resort Guests will continue to be able to enjoy Extra Magic Hours, while this new event takes place on different dates and is another option for enjoying Magic Kingdom.]

I wish they would include a full list of things offered.

Just wanted to mention that's 89 points at BWV and (OKW). So you could get 2 studios there (gives you couch living areas, queen beds and kitchenettes) or even a 1BR with full kitchen but one couple on the pullout (which have improved IMO) at $13 rental points. Have seen as low as $10 and of course much higher other times of the year.

You could use G Grocer esp for a 1BR and not have to spend $200 to $300 a day on food.

Plus you can walk to EPCOT and DHS and have an adult area to stroll around each night.

Now picture DVC members having to only pay dues on those nights-app $60 a night no tax (oh and maybe $15 more now).
Yeah I did actually consider looking into DVC rental points as an option..I was going to book our room about a year out for normal Disney resorts and then look at DVC closer to the date (since you can only book up to 11 months out normal for time shares). I believe some (or all-I really don't know a huge amount about renting the pts) charge $2 extra per pt if you rent more than 7 months out.

As for groceries we were going to buy some especially for the breakfast meal and I do hear great things about grocery services commonly used at WDW. My husband and I can share a lot of things at WDW but the in-laws can't I'm trying to impress upon them that portion sizes in certain places can be large enough to share. For the budget it made it difficult to account for that individual difference. I did look at a ton of WDW menus and while I know some menus change according to the seasons I did get an idea of what I would order and/or could share with my husband and I personally think we'll come out spending a lot less than the in-laws. The food costs won't be split exactly half-half since the in-laws spend more but with budgeting it made sense.

Thanks for your input :thanks:

There's no way I'd buy that sight unseen, but I do know there are people who are into being the first to "experience" things like this. Perhaps this would be more of a draw to locals or off-site visitors. But they had better keep it a low attendance to flaunt that exclusive feel. Else there will be some really unhappy people asking for their $150 a ticket back.

Park hours are already set going I to summer? No they are not.. 10 pm closing for MK during June is not normal. Go look at June calendar its not been updated for summer.

I'm sorry but I have to laugh at all the comments (which right now there are only 10 but still) listed on the press release. It echos what you would expect people to think about...cost, experience, how many tickets, "better include special things", etc.

If they came out with this event prior to when all the special parties were implemented it might have been a different story. People are already comparing to what the other parties offer and then looking at the cost and scratching their heads.

I think last May MK closed every night at 10PM except for Sat night EMH-which were from 10 to 12. May 30 it jumped an hour later.

This May there are every wednesday night EMH from 11 to 1AM as well as this new ticket 4 other nights.

Love it, a guaranteed response in the meeting they had. :thumbsup2

On the first one-we would still be seeing amazing sticker shock. $150 for 4 hours? Who would be that stupid-I guarantee it. And honestly-I would prefer $150 for 6 hours even with 3 in overlap because we could still see all the shows/parades and fireworks-kind of a mix of your second one.

Sounds like your second one is the same as they have offer now like MNSSHP.

Yes it would be expensive but 4 hours with say 10K or less people in the park is a radically different experience to 6 hours with 30K people in the park. You can market to that. Experience the Magic Kingdom as never before! Walk on to any ride! I rode Space Mountain 3 times back to back!

The second is intended to be like the existing parties because at least that way you're not charging more for less which is basically what this offer is right now. More money, less time, less unique experiences.

Be one thing or the other, rather than looking like you're just try to cash in and grab people's money without even doing anything extra for it.

From a marketing perspective not even being able to specify whether there's a ticket limit or what rides will be open or whether there will be anything actually special about this is pathetic.

Yet wondering if it will be packed.

My point was it would be 3 hours with 10K and just rides and 3 hours with 30K-but rides/parades/shows/fireworks, instead of 4 hours with 10K and just rides.

It's real simple. People are getting bogged down with how it's not worth it to them. I attempted to show that a "struggling family" could make it to Disney for a base cost of about $2k. And no, I am not their travel agent so I was factoring flight or gas to drive or food or quarters for the penny press, or souvenir cash, or whatever else. My point was not to say that if someone hands me 2k right now I'll send them off on a week long Disney vacation. My point was much simpler, it can be done comparative to a week vacation in many other places.

I didn't include food or transportation on the comparative trip to tour the west national monuments either. It was apples to apples.

Now, if your the type that insists on using the dining plan (which has been proven time and time again to not be a good deal, it is simply a way to let people pay and forget) or the type who has a larger family and need multiple rooms, etc etc etc, then that is where you stop representing the lower class families and you start taking advantage of the spectrum of offers Disney has for people who have more money.

With all due respect you have to include in all those other factors for a vacation regardless of whether it is WDW or not. That's why I placed my comment about it not being an accurate representation. I would love to have pixie dust sprinkled all over me covering all those costs you deemed not basic but that's not how it works. You don't just magically appear in the resort room with tickets in hand and say that's that.

In September I'm taking a beach trip with my husband for 7 days. We considered 2 places-Hawaii and the Bahamas.

The resort in the Bahamas was $250 cheaper than the rental condo by owner place in Hawaii. So if I looked at that alone I would say "yes please take me to the Bahamas".......but turns out the airfare taxes and fees are about $64/ticket to the Bahamas with Delta and about $11/ticket to Hawaii...the airfare is comparable but 1 of the tickets will be paid for by using Delta Skymiles (wish that SWA went to Hawaii cuz Delta's program kinda sucks). Also the place in the Bahamas doesn't have a kitchen but does have an on-site restaurant but it costs extra. The place in Hawaii has a kitchen with a grocery store nearby.

The place in the Bahamas wouldn't necessarily require a rental car (actually the island uses golf carts mostly for tourists to get around) and Hawaii we would need a rental car. In the Bahamas excursions cost extra including snorkeling, catamaran tours, etc. The rental condo by owner in Hawaii includes boogie boards, surf boards, snorkeling gear, etc. What we plan to do for excursions will in the end cost less in Hawaii than in the Bahamas.

So if I just looked at the cost of the place where I'm going to sleep at I would have picked the Bahamas......but with all other costs included Hawaii will end up being just a smidge more than the Bahamas and that's actually only due to a rental car needed for 7 days versus a golf cart rental paid for only when needed.
