Found a great deal for a flight leaving MCO at 7:30 PM. Planning on taking DCL bus.

Can we take a DCL bus direct to a resort we do not have a reservation at to spend the day there?
Will Bell services hold our bags if we are not a guest?
Is there a place to hold bags at Disney Springs?
What are your suggestions??

Thanks!

No, you cannot use DCL transfers without a resort reservation.

Don't know what "DS" is.

Get a rental car. That's what we did.

If you're going to a resort for pools why not take the bus to MCO and get a day room at the Hyatt. It runs about $100 and the pool is nice. It was super quiet and relaxing when we did this last year. Then you don't have to worry about getting to the airport on time.

We aren't looking for pools, looking to either spend the day at a neat resort and eat lunch there or visit Disney Springs. But we'll have bags with us.

Yes, remember you may not use the pool at a WDW resort if you are not a guest.

You can Uber or Taxi to a Disney resort, and Bell Services would hold your bags for the day (even if not a guest, just be kind, accurate with your timing request to hold the bags, and tip them). Then Uber or Taxi to MCO.

The DCL busses are not a free service, you must make a reservation for that transfer and pay for the ride to MCO. That cost may be too much if you aren't staying at MCO and prefer to get to a resort or Disney Springs for some fun unless you want to check your bags that way.

Here are some more official Disney responses on this topic: https://disneyparksmomspanel.disney...cruise-return-flight-night-love-spend-300420/

Now you have me thinking...

If you definitely wanted to do Disney Springs, you could:

  • Taxi or Uber to Saratoga Springs Resort from Port Canaveral (its the closest to Disney Springs)
  • Ask Bell Services to hold you luggage for the day (tip them!)
  • Take the boat or walk to Disney Springs to enjoy
  • Return trip to the resort
  • Taxi or Uber back to MCO (allow plenty of time for traffic! Note a Taxi may be $100, mine was $75 with just me and one bag once...)
Disney Springs does not have lockers or a room for any storage it seems.

If you rent a car yourself after the cruise, you can park in the free garages at Disney Springs and keep luggage in the car. It would likely be cheaper for one day rental than Uber/Taxi and less back-n-forth.

If just spending the day at a resort, I recommend any of the monorail ones. You can eat, shop, and ride the monorail with a lot to see very efficiently. The Grand and Polynesian have more interesting lunch options (without a reservation) than the Contemporary, IMO.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Now I'm thinking renting a car at the port makes more sense.. it's the 2 of us so for $10 more than the Disney Bus we could rent a car for the day and return it at MCO. We are arriving early before the cruise and will visit Poly/monorail stuff then so thinking driving our rental car to Animal Kingdom Lodge to eat lunch at Sanaa and then hang out watching animals in Jambo lobby.

For rental car, any ways to get good deals? Is Budget the best to use from the port to MCO same day? Should we pump our own gas for drop off or should we let them do it?

The best rental company is the one with the cheapest one-way rate for the day you need the vehicle from Port Canaveral to MCO. Budget, Alamo/Enterprise, Avis all have frequent (but busy) shuttles to their off-site locations (which all rentals are from the cruise terminal). We've last used Alamo before without problem but we reserve and re-reserve (then cancel the previous) as rates drop while checking prior. With 6 of us we saved $$$ moving ourselves at our own pace, making a few touristy stops along the way and taking our time till a late date flight home. We also fill-up ourselves at the 7/11 at the 2nd last exit before the airport (if heading from Disney at McCoy/Boggy Creek via Jetport off of 528).

We have done this several times, got the shuttle to the rental site (Budget and Dollar) and then returned the car to MCO. We always pre book a rental (we use the UK online booking site) as the pick up sites are really busy and we fill up ourselves, probably at the same place as the PP! We tend to go to Universal Drive for some adventure golf, lunch & shopping, but then we go to WDW pre-cruise.

This sounds like a great option for us... I'm currently booked at AOA, because we also have a late flight out after our cruise...but I'm wondering, if it is too much transfer time back and forth to MCO... ? Can I ask you, if this "day room" is a special rate you looked for, or is it a regular one night reservation (only that you are checking out in the evening instead), and did you book it through their own website, or did you call them? Many thanks!!!

I just checked and I can't find a 'Day rate' - in the link from the mom panel above it confirms that there is a rate for check in at 10am and check out at 6pm, but I can't find it on the Hyatt's website...?

You have to call and ask.

I like to rent cars using Autoslash - they will find a deal and continually re-book you until its the lowest price, and no payment due up front for the service. Good luck with the plans, sounds fun!

Sanaa is wonderful!!

We did the day room at the Hyatt MCO and would do it again. Very good experience and made waiting for our flight very pleasant.

We did the day room at the Hyatt MCO as well. It made for a great day! My family was able to swim and enjoy the sun at their pool. Our little grandson was able to come back to the room and even take a nap. Plus, it was nice to take a quick shower before flying out. I believe it was like $100 for the day room, money well spent! The year before that we sat in the airport for over 6 hours. Honestly, I spent more than $100 at all the shops to help from being so bored and tired.

We got there before 10 am due to being one of the first ones off the ship and to the ground transfer bus. They allowed us to have the room, I believe it was like 9 or 9:30 because they had a room ready. And yes, you have to check out at 6 pm. But believe me if your flight is flying out at 7:30 you will need to be out of there before then. We flew Southwest and they will not except your luggage until so many hours before you flight leaves (I can't remember how many hours, but I was glad I had my luggage in the room so that I could rearrange clothing to make sure they were pretty even in weight since your in a hurry to get your luggage outside of your door the night before you get off the ship). Plus, depending on how busy the airport is, it can take a while to get through the airline lines to get your luggage checked in and TSA lines. Last year we flew out the first week of August around the same time as your flight and it was BUSY! We left out in plenty of enough time to get through all the lines, and then when to our gate we got something to eat at one of the fast food restaurants.

Yes, this is totally me, too! I dread the packing up on the cruise ship - I'm in full vacation mode, and I can't think of airline regulations and liquids, and sharps, and so on. I suppose it wouldn't be as bad, if we were able to drive home after the cruise, but packing up for a flight coming back from Castaway Cay is awful! It will help me, if I can just throw everything in any of the bags and then repack for the flight. Also I have a little one that needs a nap. We are currently booked at AOA post cruise - but it just seems too much time on the bus both ways with possible multiple stops...? Plus it's much more expensive.
OK - I have to call them (Hyatt!). Thanks!
Honestly, I don't know, why not more hotels (including Disney's) offer "day rates" - I would take advantage of this often.

Honestly, you don't even have to call the MCO Hyatt for a day room. You just show up, no reservations needed. This year our flight leaves out at 3:30 and I am still trying to decide if we are going to need a day room this year. I guess we will play it by ear. I agree, more places need to offer day rooms!
