Did you work in the travel industry before you had your "baby"!
I'm looking at returning to some type of work next year as it will be the last year of high school for Tim. Dan is already in university. I know how you feel!
But this is all new to me! My youngest will head to University this coming Sept and I just thought I need something to keep me from being sad and wandering aimlessly! I know when my oldest DD left I was really a mess for awhile...so maybe beginning gradually now, I will be 'somewhat' proficient at it by the Fall and actually have something to keep my interest and that I can enjoy the perks of!!
I will sell all cruises and I would assume get discounts?? I am not too sure of all the little benefits yet!!?? Sure am counting on them though! I love to travel and figure this can help feed my habit!! lol...
Congratulations!! How did you hear about this job? I too am thinking about this kind of thing for next year as my little boy is finally going into school full time and I would love to get out to work at least part time. If you don't mind, can you give me an idea where you started? Thanks for any and all info!
I have been trying to think of something I could begin and take my time sinking my teeth into. I will work for a local company (Not sure if I am allowed to say the name here as that could be seen as advertising??) and basically, I am 'self-employed' working from home as much and as often as I wish or in the office as often as I prefer.I make the commission on a booking and split it with the office I will be affiliated with. I have paid to be trained and set up with business cards, a website, etc etc..I begin aportion of the training which is self taught via a manual (22 hours) and then spend time in the office with the Manager being trained on the reservation system and then the balance with another man from out West that 'ties it all togther' for me. I am one of about 5 others beginning at the same time.
I think this will work for me...I can work at my own pace and still do the things I like to do and have freedom as I choose. Come Sept if I wish to do more and make more money..then I will have all the time to do that as well. I know lots of people who know lots of people as well as a very well connected hubby who also is out there amongst many...and have long had the reputation for arranging peoples trips to Disney and all over the place including cruising!! I look at it that I can now maybe make some money doing what I am already doing! Being the 'busy body' that I already am!
I was initially very nervous...but am getting to feel more excitement now about the whole thing!
No need to be nervous-you are forging a path and I applaud you!My girlfriend just suggested to me the other day that I do something similar with travel sales for a Toronto based tour operator that she is working for. I may do so, but I LOVE Hawaii and would prefer to focus on those islands instead. I think the Ontario travel market is price driven however, seeing how popular Cuba and the Dominican have become in the last 4-5 years so I don't know if the market is really there for Hawaii big time. Oh well, I admire your first steps toward something you love, Aloha.
I too love Hawaii...but I think a lot of the problem is that there are no (or very very few) All-Inclusive packages to Hawaii. It can become pretty costly with an already sizeable airfare and then hotel prices being pretty high. By the time you add meals and spending $$ for tours, car rentals etc...it can get to be a big big trip!! I think of you could package it...people would take a second look at this great destination.
I have no interest myself in the DR or Cuba (Though my DD just returned from Cuba and loved it??) so I sure would take a look at a nice Hawaii deal!
