Aft/Forward - What's the Difference?

I know Aft is the back and Forward is the front. Is the ride smoother in either one of these areas? TIA

I have only sailed once and it was in the middle of the ship. I felt almost no motion. It also happened to be may and the waters were pretty calm though. I have heard from other posters that you are more aware of the motion the farther forward you are. About being further aft I am not sure, I haven't heard anything about it. I'm sure someone else will help you later though. :D

We've been in both areas and did not notice any difference at all .... this is based on our experience, others will probably have their own opinions ..... Andy

Aft has the secret balconies, and forward has the nightclubs? The middle of the ship has the smoothest sailing, but I really can't tell the difference in one end or the other.

Of course, it depends on the seas when you are sailing. When you do get larger swells and rough seas, the most motion is felt forward. The least motion is felt in the center of the ship. It is also said that the higher up you go, the more motion you will feel. So in theory, forward and top deck will be the most motion felt and lowest deck center, least. IN THEORY. If the ocean is a rollin, you'll feel it. Ive been on cruises that have rocked so hard it was tough to stay in bed. Others, You won't feel an inch of movement. Another thing to remember (in choosing cabins) is that aft, manytimes you will feel the engines (Propellers?) turning and grinding when docking and such. I like the rumble you feel, but some others don't. If you are an early riser, you should have no problem with this (as you generally dock around 8 or 9 am).

We stayed aft last cruise and liked it so that is where we are staying again in May...we were in the handicap room at the very end of the hall and yes we did hear a lot of engin noise while we were docking but most of the time we were already up anyway so it didn't bother us but we felt no rocking back there.

I am a MAJOR aft fan. I've sailed many times forward, in the secret porthole rooms, and I've felt more motion up there than aft. I love the drone of the engines at night, as white noise lulls me to sleep, and the sound of the thrusters while docking is my wake-up call (although I'm so used to aft that I often sleep right through it).

That was my exact concern when I was asking about my room. I guess I should have ask better. We were told we were on gty status and that it would probably be the middle of Feb before we knew our room, then bam, two days later we were fedex'ed our packets with room number 2502. I was kindof down hearted because I was hoping to have middle room because I heard that it was a smoother ride. I get motion sickness and it just is worrying me. Sorry for such long post, but if someone from these boards cant help me calm my fears... no one can.

I don't get sea sick, but my husband does. He also gets car sick if on a long drive. There have been times when I've felt the ship moving and he hasn't even noticed it. However, the vibration at the back of the ship can make him feel a little off. He's never had to use medicine on a cruise, even though he must when on a smaller boat.

I think it depends on what kind of motion makes you sick. Your safest bet is mid-ship.:sunny:
