Aeroplan rant---again

We have had our frustrations w/ aeroplan as well - but flying from Alberta - there is not a less expensive option! We found that often their website will quote 45000 to 75000 points / flight (economy would be 25000). If we phone, however, and talk it up with the rep (how excited we are about our vacation etc) they will work hard to get us there for 25000 points by routing us a way the website would not check. As well we found better flights open up closer to the date often (obviously have not sold out the plane!), and it is only $25 / ticket to change.
If anyone else from AB flies to Las Vegas however - drive accross the border to great falls, montana and fly allegiant air for as little as $29 / person! 2 could fly total price for less than the tax on an aeroplan flight!
:cool2:

For those of you who live close to the border and want to use your aeroplan points to fly, check the Air Canada website and find out who they have partnered with in the US(for plan redemption). We flew in 2002 and 2005 using our plan points with AC out of Syracuse. One year is was United and the other it might have been American Airlines. Because we were flying out of the US we avoided all those heafty Canandian taxes (I think we paid $15pp).

I would never have thought of using my plan points in the US except that we couldn't get flights out of Canada when we wanted to travel. It's worth a shot anyway.

don't know how to say it in a classy way, but aeroplan just flat out sux more and more with time. i used to be elite for about 8 years straight with them, as of about 4 years ago. Back then it actually meant something and you were treated with added priviledges. We could book available seats on flights even if all pre assigned seats were taken. Upgrade certificates were more generous and easy to redeem etc etc.

Nowadays being upper tier means jack squat, other than you get to board before everyone else.

I almost never have any aeroplan seats available straightup for the flights i want to go on, unless i am willing to pay double the aeroplan miles for the same seats under their classic/non-classic reward program. the upgrade certificates you get are no longer redeemable unless you basically pay for full fare seats in economy, which no one basically does (why would you pay $1000 for a latitude fare seat when you can have that same seat for $300 under tango).

I am not surprised at all that air canada is getting closer and closer to bankruptcy.

Rant over :goodvibes

While I agree...Air Canada do not own Aeroplan.

At one time they did ..but sold it off some years back.

But it is getting tougher and tougher soooo after I am done with my 400,000 miles...I am outta there! I am using my RBC-Avion pretty much all the time these days. The winds of change...:confused3

How about with car rentals? Any issues????? We're looking at booking our car through them.:confused3

I have never used Aeroplan for anything other than flights so can't be of help..I am sure someone here has?:confused3

My dad has not make any car rental reservations with Aeroplan, however in the past when renting from Avis at Orlando International Airport he showed them his Aeroplan card and got more points because of that.
