Hi Everyone,

I know there's a DVC'er/Dis'er that has a picture of the WL from the air. Does anyone know who that is?

Thanks,
Lisa

Thanks Caskar! Those are indeed beautiful photos!

There is a person who has a aerial picture of the WL in their signature too. That was the picture I was looking for. Are you out there???

There is only an altitude warning over AK due to the animals. Everything else falls under normal rules (best I can remember reading the chart, don't have one here in front of me)

Found the person I wanted. It's Ratpack's picture just in case anyone was curious.

Thanks everyone,
Lisa

I didn't take the pictures:) I don't even like to fly. But they are beautiful. They help me get oriented to where things are on the property. It amazes me how close things are to each other, yet seem to be isolated at the same time. Disney planners did a good job with most of the additions over the years.

There currently is a flight restriction over wdw, I think only below 1,000 feet.

Yes, Ei$ner managed to push it through - only 3 miles around WDW so it cannot be due to the claimed "security threat"

Thanks

I noticed this last summer when I had a room on the 11th floor of the Courtyard Marriott in DTD. I could see the Contemporary, Epcot and S&D and the BCV area. It was amazing. Everything that seems so far and wide was all w/in view. It was great. I realized the genious of the planning. No matter how busy the parks and parking lots are, there never seems to be any traffic on roads w/in the Disney property. (Except in DTD.)

Great pics. Thanks.

Effective March 18 there has been a TFR (Temporary Flight Restriction) placed over WDW. It's a 3 nautical mile radius (approx 3.5 statute mile radius) extend from ground to 3000 feet. It is also categorized as PROHIBITED airspace which is a slightly greater restriction than simple RESTRICTED airspace.

You can see the official publication at this link:

Just curious Jaysue, did Eisner also arrange for the special restrictions around the Indianapolis 500 race, or the North Carolina NASCAR 600, or any other number of special events with high crowds? Just wondering, in 2001 did he arrange for the special restrictions for aircraft flying over the Grand Canyon in Arizona?

Restricted airspace is a fact of life. There is restricted airspace in EVERY state. All military bases, many government areas, and many 'commercial' areas, including WDW.

It says on the sight these pics were taken above 2000' back in December before this current TFR. Don't know what it was before then. I've been wanting to fly in to Kissimee for a visit to WDW but haven't checked on everything for the flight since I have no trips planned before Oct that everyone would fit in a 180.

Well, now we are off topic but I do not feel the least bit comfortable with a 3.5 mile 3000' restriction - let's face it, in a plane intent on causing harm that distance or height would not give much warning. To me it is all about Ei$ner and crew wanting to make sure no one can show their banners and advertisements in the air.

Amen about the uselessness of a 3 mile restriction as far as homeland security goes but I really don't think it has anything to do with Eisner directly. As with most of the other current TFRs sinc 9/11, it's our uneducated government's kneejerking. You'd be hard pressed to evacuate or scramble a fighter if anyone ever realized the TFR was broken, even in a slow single engine like my 180.

Sorry, I know we've departed the topic several posts ago.

What I'm surprised about is that Disney doesn't have helicopter tours or something like that. I'm sure people would pay big bucks for a 20 minute tour over the most magical place on earth, even at night to see the fireworks displays. See all of them without rushing between parks.

Probably because Disney is really only 'magical' at ground level. It takes a lot to run that place, maintenance buildings, warehouses, service roads, employee parking areas, etc that are all well hidden at ground level. Get 1000 feet up and it's all visible.

I've flown over before and from an Engineer's aspect it's all fascinating how they put it all together. But I think from a park goer's perspective it's not the same magic they want to have people feel, and that's why they don't do it.

I asked one time why Disney doesn't sell aerial photographs of WDW and the reason was essentially what I said above. Those photos would also show all the behind the scenes stuff. Not what Disney wants.
