Advice on WDW dining please!

Hey hey

Well as I eagerly await the June hours I decided I would finally get down to planning our meals. Now my b/f (the great guy that he is) has given me the task of finding places for us to eat during our trip. I have this disney dining plan booklet thingie he printed out from the internet. We are doing the Magic Your Way Plan with the Dining Option. Okie so some info before I turn it over to the Disers. We are going on May 28. We arrive at like 4. We are staying at Allstar Movies. The group consists of Me (28), my b/f (also 28), b/'fs female friend (27, first timer, Disney FREAK), b/f's mother, b/f's two brother's, brother's wife, and b/f's nephew (5). So we arent doing a park on the saturday (28th) so it's up to me to plan the meals for all of us. No pressure! HELP! MEDIC! Any suggestions on must eats?

P.S. character meals, as much as I want to do one are a big "NO" from everyone involved.

We're going the same day, and our in a group of similar size. I was very concerned if we didn't "plan"/PS some meals, we wouldn't get to have a sit down meal all week.
Here's a couple of things I felt were real musts, musts for our group.
Hoop Dee Doo Review- went 2 years ago w/ another couple, we lauged so much. Great time!
Prime Time Cafe- if you get a good server, this can be the highlight of the trip
Kona Cafe- for Breakfast, Tonga Toast! If you like french toast, if you like sugar and cinimmon, if you like bananas. It is somthing you will be talking about for years!
If you were looking for something a little upscale- California Grill in Contemporary fabulous! I also love the Mayan restaurant in Cornado Springs.
And probably the thing I'm looking forward to the most. I remember as a child, my mom and I ate around the world in Epcot. This time around, the plan is to drink our way around the world!!!

Anybody every been to the coral reef restaurant in epcot? What's it like?

We have done Coral Reef once. We loved it. The atmosphere is so incredible. My kids could have seriously stayed in there all day. They loved having the scuba divers wave at them! The food is a little expensive so we went at lunch. It would be a nice, cool place to go on a hot day! We also love Sci Fi Dine In at MGM. You get to watch old sci fi flicks on a big screen. Its like being at an inside drive in movie. Great burgers, sandwiches and milkshakes. I would really try to get eveybody to do a character meal. The 5 year old would love it. You might end up liking it better than you think. We love Chef Mickey's and Liberty Tree Tavern. The food at Liberty Tree Tavern is great IMO. They do the character thing at dinner only. Have you looked on Allearsnet.com? They have all the menus with prices so that is great for planning. Enjoy!

As far as resturants after looking at the pictures of foods thread, I decided Whispering Canyon Cafe was a must.

Coral Reef is nice, but I was not overly impressed with the food (could be that we get great seafood here on the Chesapeake).

Le Cellier (Epcot) is not to be missed. The Cheddar Cheese soup and pretzel bread is crazy delicious.

Sci Fi (MGM-no, sorry, Disney Studios )is nice, I do like the burgers there.

I would stay away from the San Angel Inn (Epcot). We have eaten there at least five times, but the last two times have been very, very sub-par.

Wherever you eat, it will be in Disney, so it is a win win no matter!

With a 5yo, I would definitely do the sci-fi. Make sure you request a car! He will love it, and the old drive-in shorts that play. My boys love that and still want to go back.

My oldest, who does not really like Disney, still likes the breakfast buffet at Cryatal Place in MK. They have the Pooh characters.

I also recommend checking out the menus and reviews on allears dot net.

Oh, don't deny the 5-year-old a Character Meal! Split up for a meal and have at least one adult accompany the little fellow at Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom or Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary.

Also, for a group experience that appeals to a variety of ages I would recommend Ohana at the Polynesian resort (a quick monorail ride from Magic Kingdom).

I have to second the idea of Chef Mickey's -- especially for the 5 YO and the Disney Freak! The food is good too, so I really think everyone would enjoy it if only you could convince them!!!

Whispering Canyon Cafe is another great time - not to be missed IMO!

2 years ago we went.
We are from the Boston area, and would never pay (did I say never) 18.95 (probably more now)LOL!
for a lobster salad roll, did I forget to mention it was on a french bagette!
Silly! My kids hated it, cost us over 100.00 plus tip. (did I mention 2-3 people could of at the giant loaf of bread filled with lobster) NOT one person, especially NOT kids!!!
23 trips to WDW eating all over and and outside the parks, this indeed was our worst experience.

The view wasn't that great.
Wine list is over priced too!

My theory is go to Seaworld, if you want to see "fish" or your local aquarium!
Not that much atmosphere.
IE. For lunch it is fine dining-set up. At least when we were there.
It was an "adult atmosphere" as well as the food selections.
The waitress did not tell us anything about portions (we would of never ordered) not really a kids place=older couples (who don't mind plopping over 100.00 plus for lunch) and they didn't really like the idea of my kids and they were 14 and 9 at the time and they are well behaved kids..the looks.
I wouldn't go again, not even with DH.
If a resteraunt is great, and has great food, I pay not problem.
But this to me had nothing to offer.
Over priced & Over rated.


A good time family place would be Sci Fi Dinner Place (sit in 1/2 car protypes of cars. atmosphere is family rated**
Rainforest in DD, family atmosphere and about the same thing hamburgers
and Planet Hollywood.
Kids would like the Sci Fi.
Crystal place in MK for lunch or Dinner
Character breakfasts/Dinners are always a huge hit with the kids.
and last but not least my favorite-
O'Hana's at the Poly! Ukeilee strummin' by a native Hawaiian with coconut races for the kids and at night they lower the lights and you can see the fireworks-wonderful place.
