advice on resale price

Hi there,

I'm looking at purchasing a 30 point SSR contract resale. The initial price was $84, I made a lower offer and the seller countered with $82. I realize that the prices vary wildly and I've taken a look at the ROFR thread to get an idea of what I should expect.

It seems like these small contracts sell for a higher amount per point, but I see successful sales of a similar size on the ROFR thread for $68, $70 per point. Should I hold out for that kind of price, or are those anomalies? I guess in the grand scheme, $10/point difference isn't an insane amount of money, but I don't want to pay a few hundred dollars more if I can just be patient and wait for something else.

Do you already own on SSR? If so how many points,and would this contract be what your looking for? If the answer is yes to all the questions then go ahead and buy the contract.Just when you think there's a flow to what disney does with ROFR they'll throw something else at you.

Are you willing to hold off until another one with the right point and use year shows up? How long have you been looking for? Are you on a timeframe for booking vacation plans with the points?

It does seem a little high, but personally if I wasn't overly bothered by the price difference and in the grand scheme of things it fit my timeframe etc. I would counter slightly closer, see if they came down again, and if not accept it.

It does have to make it through ROFR which for SSR at the moment looks interesting, to say the least.

I just took a look at the ROFR board,WOW you weren't kidding about SSR getting interesting.They seem to be buying a lot of it.

I was looking at those 30 pt contracts as well. $84 seemed high and since they weren't being sold I determined that it was too high. If they were still up after the 1st of the year I was going to make a low ball offer. But realistically, at 30 pts every $1 lower only makes a $30 difference. So it really isn't worth too much dickering unless you were going to get a bargain basement price. With a starting price of $84, I'm not sure that's going to happen.

The smaller contracts do demand a higher price. But those contracts that you see are also fairly stripped. While they won't go for $70, I'm guessing they're worth easily $78 to $80. But in that point range I wouldn't expect lower. So your choice is do you want to fork out the extra $60-120 dollars.

Disney has been buying a lot of SSR lately. Enough to make me sweat out my purchase. But much of what I've seen them take have been contracts with a lot of existing points on them. I don't know why that matters to Disney but it seems to. My contract had no points until late 2015 and was passed up while another similar contract with a 2013 and 2014 points was snatched up for a much higher price than I paid.

Those smaller contracts always command a 15%-20% premium. They usually get gobbled up by full-price offers within hours. When you see those lower values, and one of them is mine, those are contracts that were priced way to low to begin.

Thanks for all the feedback. I don't currently have any points, but I'm somewhat local (90 mins away) and have rented points for a weekend or two pretty consistently for the last couple years. I figured it was about time to save some money and just buy the silly points myself instead of paying $12/point to rent. I will probably get more points eventually, but I don't want to have to finance, so I figured a small contract is a good way to test the waters and save up for some additional points if I decide that's what I want to do.

I'm a little concerned about the weird pattern (or lack thereof) with he ROFR at SSR, but I guess we'll see how it goes?

30 points will not get you more than an occasional weekend .Personally i'd wait until i could afford more points to look for a contract.

Another thing to consider regarding such a small contract is the closing cost. Closing on a 30 pt contract will run around $300 plus - this adds another $10/point in addition to the already higher point cost. Closing costs on larger contract - 150 points or so - only translate to less than $3 per point.
