you go through immigration and customs at your first entry point into the US..
so if you fly through newark, you would cross immigration and customs in newark...
people try to leave at least 2.5 hours between flights for the inbound leg of the trip (coming to the US).....
i usually leave 3 hours between flights when flying indirect...(when flying to the states....)

Thanks for the info....think I may give it a miss then...the package I was offered only had an hour and a half between flights....may just go direct

but if they're offering it, then it means that they will get you to florida if you miss the flight..
there are lots of flights that go from newark to orlando...
if you miss one flight, they put you on the next..
if you're flying on one airline...say continental the whole way, continental will eventually get you to orlando....they have lots of flights..

and the truth is, newark is a pretty easy airport to fly indirect through..
i've gone through newark tons of times...if it's a big savings, it's worth it...

which airline is it?

I wouldn't hesitate taking a flight with 90 mins between. Are you sure you the route you want is to Sanford? normal indirect is into MCO. Sanford is airport charter airlines usually use.

I've been looking at the Heathrow --> Boston --> Orlando route with Delta - a good £100pp cheaper than going with Continental (at least for our dates).

Anyone had any experience with Delta? Anyone have experience changing at Boston, it's 1hr 40mins change, and Delta all the way, both legs, there and back.

My mistake...it is MCO....my concern is that last time I spent some time in immigration due to not being able to go through ESTA having had a criminal conviction (it was a very very minor thing that happened 15 years ago but causes me no end of annoyance)...its just a formaily but took some time so I'm kinda concerned how that would effect my connecting flight....both legs of the journey are with continental

i've flown delta a lot....they're about the same as continental...some good staff, some bad staff......most planes are good....they have an enormous fleet of planes as a result of their merger with northwest....

but be careful with their price quotes...
they've suddenly started quoting without taxes and fuel charge included, making the price look much lower than it is..

i just fell for it a few hours ago...i went onto their website and they were quoting 30% less than anyone else...
but in the tiny print below the price, it said "total price" - which was exactly the same as everyone else...so be careful...

continental has many flights going out of newark to orlando...
there's usually a 6:30 am flight...then another at about 8:30 am...

then the next one is i think at noon...

and then more later in the day..

so if you miss one, you have a good chance of getting the next..

Thanks for the heads up there. The prices I am getting are via Expedia, and just a few £££s more via Delta directly, and unless I am missing something that does not show up until after the CC payment details have been entered, then it looks okay.

What is Delta's reliability like? There is only a 1hr 40min cross over at Boston (both ways), and I really cannot afford to miss the connecting flight back to UK. Work would go spare if I were not back in the country and available to work come the Sunday (we fly Friday, land Saturday).

i think you can check the on time record for each route on their website..
they're a very major airline - absolutely HUGE - so they have a lot of backup aircraft in the event of mechanical problems..
i've never experienced really bad delays with them..

when is your flight out of orlando? the only problem i've ever encountered with delays out of orlando is when we were scheduled in the afternoon in the summer when there is a tendency for tons of lightening...(so planes aren't permitted to load/unload)...
so i try to avoid scheduling a flight out of orlando in the late afternoon....
but other than that, an hour and 40 minutes outbound shouldn't be a problem..
you're just running from plane to plane, your bags will already by checked through...

i've never been to boston, so i don't know what logan airport is like (other than its reputation for being very busy)...

We are not flying until September, returning mid-Sept. The flight out of Orlando is about 6:10pm, which is close to when we normally leave with Virgin (7pm), and we've never had any delays with Virgin leaving on time, although have had the privilege of watching some pretty spectacular lightning displays in the air!
